Am I dumb re: blogger?

I am not dumb by any means technologically. But this blogger thing has me confused. I want to make it all cutesy and add my own font and header, etc. I can't figure out how to do it and everyone always says how easy it is. Please help! lol

    check out cutest blog on the block for backgrounds. I make my own headers in photoshop.

    1) Go to Blogger and set the template to Minima

    2)  Go to cutestblogontheblock.com

    3) Pick a 2 column Blogger layout

    4) Scroll down and copy the coding on the page for that specific layout.

    5) Go to Blogger and go to the Layout portion of the site.  Add a HTML gadget (no title) and paste the code.

    VOILA!
