Re: ~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~ SAIFW

  • Hi ! My name is Katie and Im new to this site. Im from Miami Florida and Ive live here all of my life. Im a nursing student and Im getting ready to graduate. My husband and I have been together for five years all of which we have been TTC. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17 and put on a staggering 100 pounds over the years. Its seems that nothing I do works to get rid of the weight. Im not sure if there is a special diet for PCOS. But Ive trying to get my body baby ready. The doctors say that I can have childeren but that Im just not ovulating. I know that the only thing that I have to do is tell them to place me on clomid. But everytime I mention I want to get pregnant they give me a weird look and tell me Im to young to start a family. I didnt realize that 23 was that young and my husband is 25. I dont even think that 21 is that young to start a family. after that you may be pushing it a little. but who knows what do you guys think about age and TTC? And I dont know what to do because I have been without a period for 3 months now and its kinda hard to know when your ovulating  if you dont have a period and are not ovulating. Ladies I need help, What do I do ? My husband wants to start a family more than anything else in this world and im afraid that i wont be able to give it to him. There is nothing Im more afraid of than failure. I cant see him get his hopes up again and then tell him the test is negative again. Any sort of guidance at all or information would be great! you can email me if you'd like at katiemelendez@yahoo.com. I really appreciate any time anyone takes to help answer my questions

  • Today is CD 4 for me. Started Bravelle 2 vials a day for 5 days yesterday & will be back for first follicle scan on monday.

QOTD: I'm Ashly. I'm from Michigan. All TTC info in siggie. I can't think of anything that might surprise you, I love pickles & olives!

  • Hi Katie. I would strongly recommend finding a dr that will listen to you. Are you seeing an RE or OB? I would recommend an RE. When I was diagnosed with PCOS I left my OB was restricted on what he knew about my situation. I felt better being with an RE. You should have an HSG done, sperm analysis done all before going on meds. Provera will probably be used to induce your periods so you can start treatment. I don't care about age, just not younger than 21 like you said. I am 27 almost 28 & they tell me " you have time, you are young." I have been TTC for 2 yrs now. GL to you.

  • QOTD - My name is Tara and I was dx PCOS when I was 16.  I ditched bcp when I got married over three years ago when I was 23.  We wanted to start asap b/c we knew it would be hard.  Now I'm 27 and we never knew it would be this hard.

We are from South Jersey, right outside of Atlantic City.  We both grew up in the area, we started dating in high school, went away to the same college, and got married shortly after graduation.  We are both school teachers: him 5th grade, me 2nd grade special education.  I have a music degree and psychology degree (hence the screenname) and I am currently working on my masters in SpEd.

  • Well I haven't checked in for the last couple of weeks.  I had my HSG in Dec which revealed a dip or some sort in my uterus and they are unsure is it is a septum or just the shape of my uterus I guess.  I have to have another test done next cycle so I am not taking any medication this cycle.  However, on a really good note, I actually O'd on my own this cycle for the first time since we have started TTC so I am 6 dpo right and trying to not get my hopes up about a break cycle bfp.

  • My name is Andrea and I new to this PCOS Check In.  Thanks for allowing me to join! I reside in Michigan with my husband and two children.  We are currently TTC#3.  However, I have been diagnosed with PCOS and possible lupus.  We are hoping to conceive sooner than later so that my lupus condition does not get worse.

I teach toddlers (1-3) year olds and it makes for a busy day.  In the past I used to teach figure skating.  One of my first students is a juniors pairs national skater now!!!

I look forward to chatting with you ladies on here and hope to soon be added to the preggo list!

  • As far as any update, I really don't have anything. We are still on our break cycle.

I'm Madelyn and my husband and I live in Auburn, Alabama. I'm dealing with PCOS (obviously!) and also borderline high FSH numbers. My DH has low morph.

A little tidbit about me..I love, love, LOVE college sports! And my DH is a college coach so I guess it is a good thing I love sports so much :)

  • Hello! I always read these but have never asked to be included.  Since you're doing reintroductions, it seems like a good time to join up!

I'm Jill, I'm 30 and I've been trying to conceive since October 2008.  PCOS was suspected when I was a teenager, before I went on the pill, but confirmed shortly after I went off birth control.  I'm a geologist and have a huge rock collection - lots of friends and family will travel and bring me back a rock.  Better than a postcard!

Where I am in the process is that I started seeing a RE in December.  I had previously done 3 cycles of clomid under my gyn.  I have been taking metformin for a month now.  On 12/30 I had my first IUI with clomid and the ovidrel trigger.

    Thanks! Good luck to everyone!

QOTD: My name is Kari and I'm from South Jersey, near Sea Isle City.  I've been married 2.5 years and we starting TTC earlier this year.  I had no idea I had PCOS until a few weeks, when I went to my first RE appt.  My only symptoms so far are not ovulating.

  • Hi, I'm Sunny and my RE says I hit the trifecta -- PCOS, endo, and thyroid issues!  ;-)  We have been trying since we got married (almost 5 years) because I knew it was going to be a difficult road, I just never imagined how difficult.  I am currently not pursuing ART (the goal is for this time next year to start tx!!) but am taking Metformin to see if it will help me ovulate (so far, nada).  I am taking this next year to lose weight and get healthy so I will be in good shape to start meds next year!  About me... hmm... I also have a Psych degree along with a Neuroscience degree and I do laboratory research on Parkinson's Disease.  I have two calico kitties, Lily & Lucy, and a wonderful DH.  We just built our first home last year and I'm looking forward to someday soon bringing home our baby.

  • Hi Everyone! I'm April from Ohio. I was dx PCOS in September and dx Hypothyroid a long time ago.  I've been trying to stick to low carbs and it's been rough for me.  Not that this is a surprise but I'm excited that we just adopted a boxer puppy so our 7yr. old mastiff has a playmate.

  • Haven't check in for awhile.

I've been up to 2500mg of Met a day for about a month with no real issues.

I just finished my 3rd round of Prometrium, hasn't worked yet, maybe third time's the charm? RE is scheduling HSG sometime next month.

I'm Kim (30), husband is Jim (41) and we live just south of Boston. Going on a year TTC. My reproductive pieces are basically lying dormant and doing absolutely nothing which is the most frustrating part. I would be ok if I could at least get my period, and maybe ovulate from time to time, but nothing. I feel like an absolute failure. As for something interesting about me..hmm...we have custody of DH's 14 year old daughter with PDD, which is on the autism spectrum. It's a real learning experience!

  • emptybelly - I'm in Miami too so I'm going to send you an email :)

QOTD: My name is Justine I was dx with PCOS at the beginning of this year after trying since May 2008. I had been of BCP and not TTC but not exactly TTA since 2005 so I knew something wasn't right. In July of this year I started seeing my RE who immediately started testing etc. and recommended a mini-stim IUI cycle. My first 2 attempts were cancelled due to cysts and then we got a BFP when we finally got to it. It's been a very emotional 12 weeks but I think I'm finally in a good place with this and finally feeling excited about it all.

My T&P's go out to all of you that are on this journey to becoming mommies ::hugs::

  • Hey ladies, Happy New Year!  I'm Alethea and I currently live in Raleigh, NC. The hubster and I have been married for almost 6 years and dammit! this better be the year we get pregnant!  :-)  Let's see...surprising tidbit? I was lucky enough to travel, for pleasure not business, 10 out of 12 months last year. It was awesome.
  • Hi new to PCOS check in. I am right now on CD 24 and day 7 of my 2WW. We did 100mg of Clomid day 3-7 and trigger shot with IUI. If this cycle is a BFN we will be moving on to Follistim. I also have endo and am missing parts that are important to baby makin' (right ovary and tube) Been TTC since summer 08 and using treatments since January 09.

QOTD: I am Jennifer from Columbus, Ohio. Got married in March of 09. Something odd about me is that I consider my dogs people and carry on conversations with them, much to the dismay of my husband. For some reason he finds that to be a bit on the crazy side.

  • I'm 2dpo on my last cycle of femara.  If we don't get a bfp this cycle, my RE wants to do laprascopic ovarian drilling.  So, fingers crossed this is it for us.

QOTD: I'm Victoria, from SK Canada.  We've been TTC since we got married almost 4 years ago, but we've been pretty laid back about treatments up until now.  We're going to get more aggressive in the next couple of cycles if we need to.

  • My name is Jennifer... I am 30 y.o. (will be 31 in 11 days). My DH is Bill (29y.o)  We have been trying to conceieve since we got married, cuz we knew we would have a hard time.  Now that we have made it to a full year of marriage, maybe 2010 will be a good year for us!!  We live right outside of NE Phila, w/ our 1y.o. dog Seven.  She is a black lab mix.

I have an appt with my OB at the end of this month, and we will discuss if he is sending me to an RE.  This past Oct, he sent me for an HSG.  It showed my one tube was blocked, but was able to be opened.  My DH SA came back normal.  I am on 2000mg of Metformin.  Currently, I am 6 days late, but got a BFN.....

Here's to hoping 2010 is a good year for all of you as well!!

Jennifer TTC #1 Dx PCOS 2009 Apr, Aug, and Sept tried clomid cycles.... BFN. Oct...DH SA results were normal. Me...HSG - left tube was clear, right tube was slightly blocked. Dec - Clomid #4 200mg Feb 2010 - IUI #1 200mg Clomid = BFN. June 2010 - IUI #2 200mg Clomid = BFN. March 2011 - IUI #3 w/ injectables = BFN (1st & last with RE, moving on to IVF). July 2011 - consult for IVF. Sept 2011, 1st IVF. Got our BFP on 10/2/11. Became a mom on 5/5/12 to a beautiful baby boy! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers
  • Katie,

As far as dieting goes I've had some luck with a book called "New Glucose Revolution Guide to Living Well with PCOS".  With some very minor changes to my diet I've already lost 14lbs.  I really like this book because it gives options to replace your favorite foods & it's not a "don't eat this, only eat this" diet.  It's about limiting certain things, but tells you not to ignore your favorite foods just because they are bad for you.  It's made changing my diet alot easier.  Plus, it explains all about insulin resistance & how it affects your body.  Hope that helps :)

Right now I'm just waiting on AF (cycle day 84 Sad).  I'm trying to get in contact with insurance to see if they will require our waiting a few more months (until we hit 1-yr TTC) & if we even have IF benefits.

QOTD: My name is Kendra, and DH and I are continuing to TTC.  In the next few months, we'll be having a new SA, I'm having an HSG, because of a history of tubal problems and endometriosis, and we'll make the decision to either try Clomid or move right to injectibles.   The new RE that we just saw is much more aggressive than the old one, which makes this whole situation easier to swallow at the moment -- there are no questions in his mind, it's just time to act.  I also have homo MTHFR A1298C, so I take 4 mg of Folic Acid a day and 81 mg of baby aspirin.  Looking forward to getting to know you all better in the new year!

  • Hi! I'm Sarah and DH and I have been TTC for almost a year now. We said goodbye to the BCP's in December 2008, and were "seeing what happened" until March 2009 when I started really charting, etc.

We're on a break from hormone based meds until at least April because I need to get back to my normal self. I've been so stressed and moody since this all started that I don't even recognize myself sometimes. I'm feeling somewhat better and less stressed already!!

  • I'd like to join in!

I'm Kelly, DH and I are both 28, married and TTC May 2009.  I've been told since I was 17 I probably have PCOS,  but I was never TTC so I had been on birth control pills from age 16-27.

I'm from the Detroit, MI area and I'm a medical lab tech for one of the largest health systems in the area.  This job involves me processing pregnancy tests all day long :(

Where we are right now is our first Clomid TI cycle after taking Provera to bring on AF and I think I actually ovulated! I'm hopeful but realistic.  I'm really sick with a cold/flu right now so hopefully our timing was good cause DH won't go anywhere near me now, lol.

  • Hi Everyone!  I just moved up to 100mg on Clomid since the last cycle was annovulatory, fingers crossed!  If this doesnt work, the next step to make an appointment to see an RE

  • Hello Everyone - this is a bit overdue update. December was our first cycle of clomid (25 mg, CD 3-7) and I had a few follicles but nothing mature (they stopped growing on CD 15 with the largest at 9mm). My RE said that I could come back in another week but at $200/ultrasound we decided to abort the cycle and take provera to induce AF. I am on day eight of provera and I will be taking 50 mg of clomid this cycle. The first ultrasound to check the size should be around Jan 28...I can't wait! DH also got the results of the SA. Though the morph was ok (51%) the count was abnormal (4 million) so we will be doing the IUI. We are hoping that the retest in a month will show a better SA result.

QOTD: Ian and I have been married for 3.5 years and trying since Jan 2009. I am 26 and DH is 32. I was dx with PCOS in the middle of last year and I have been taking met for several months (yet it still makes me sick). I am finishing my masters and we own a printing business. In the New Year we hope to get pregnant (duh!) and add onto our little house.

    Good luck everyone!!

  • I'm April.  I've been ttc for 1.5 years now and miscarried a year ago.  Since then I have been dx with PCOS and giving Clomid a try.  Seems to be making me O, but this is my 4th cycle on it now.

I'm originally from WV, though I live in Indiana now.  I'm an engineer.  Love to work on things.  DH and I have property, we built our own garage on it and now planning a log house!!

  • Hello everyone,

My dh and I have been ttc for 2 years 3 months.  I have had one chimical pregnancy and 1 miscarriage.  I'm hopeful that 2010 is going to be the year we add to our family.  Right now we are in a 2 month break from taking clomid so we are trying without using meds.  If we are not successful on our own for January then we can start using clomid again come February.

  • Hi I'm Lauren... very recently diagnosed with PCOS (as of December 09).  I've been married since May 2009 and we're going to start TTC in May of 2010.  We moved our timeline up because we now know it's going to be a rough road.  DH and I live in Illinois.  We adopted our first puppy from a rescue about 5 months ago.  I have an ultrasound schedule for next Friday to see what's really going on.  I look forward to getting to know you ladies!

  • Well I am onto my next cycle. I had a long lp to go with it, so actually tested twice this past week because I was totally expected to start on Monday. At least I knew the trigger was out.

qotd: I am Katie and I am from Cincinnati, OH. I have been TTC with pcos for over 4 years, 2.5 years with fertility meds (clomid, femera, and HCG injects). Small tidbit can be that i have been running this check-in for over 3 years and have seen many people come and go. I hope everyone who checks in sticks around and help others as well.

  • Hi I'm Jen.  I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 20.  Right now I am 25 yrs old.  My husband and I started TTC last October after we both got our first teaching positions.  We knew we needed to start early as we knew it would be difficult.

I am in the 2ww.  This cycle I O'd on New Years day and missed it becasue the RE was closed so no trigger shot.  Next cycle moving onto all injectables, probably Follistim.

Good luck to all of you who are also struggling with TTC with PCOS!

  • I haven't been on the check-in in some time.  Just thought I'd check back in.  I haven't had AF since DD was born.  I have a ob appointment in two weeks to see if I should be started back on Met and whether we should induce AF, etc.  I'm showing all signs of PCOS back again so I don't think my body is going to get AF on its own.  We're hoping to start TTC#2 later this year but I have to get my body in order before that.  Good luck to us all!

  • Happy New Year ladies!

No huge update over here. I'm finally wrapping my head around everything that is PCOS. I was really bitter for a while and I stopped charting and was pretty much being a big brat. But Ive passed that (thankfully!) and I want to get on the right track. Im waiting for AF to come so I can start charting again...I had (what I thought) was spotting 2 days ago, but I havent had anything since...so Im still holdin out (day 35). I still need to lose a good amount of weight before I go back to the doctor and start looking into our fertility options...but Im starting a diet and exercise program that I know will help me!!

I'm Melissa, I'm 28 and live in sunny Southern California! Interesting tidbits are that I have an extensive shotglass collection and I once sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at Angel Stadium! Time of my life!!

  • Hi!  I am Simone! I am 28 and DH will be 30 in about a week.  DH and I got married in 2005.  I went of BC in January 08 and started charting and were using alternative methods of prevention.  We started our journey to parenthood in July 2008.  In Nov/Dec of 08 I was diagnosed with PCOS.  DH had an 2 SA's done in January/February 09, first one his sample was too small to run the test on.  Second one was just fine!  In May of 09 I had an HSG done, during the test my left tube either seized up or is blocked, right tube was clear and uterus looked good.

We started Clomid in February/March 09, did 6 cycles,  The final cycle resulted in a BFP!  But sadly in October we M/C'd.

DH and I are currently on a break which will be over as soon as my next period arrives.

  • Just ordered my follistim pens 10 minutes ago!!! I had my baseline this morning where I was told that I have "textbook" PCOS ovaries and they were so textbook they should be in pics when teaching med students. I got a kick out of that. Because I had a rare side effect to metformin a year back, we are trying a different drug starting this cycle for my IR problems - Actos. No side effects at all so far. For right now it will be a TI cycle but we might convert to IUI if that looks more promising.

QOTD: I'm Rachael, org from Chicago and now living up in WI. A tidbit huh? Ummmm...this is sort of flameful but I love stuffed animals. Especially cute little monkeys. I don't have a stockpile or anything but I do have one that stays on the bed Embarrassed

  • Update:  As you can see from my ticker I O'd on CD 22 which is great to me.  I also have officially lost 20 pounds since starting met and I am still losing.  I'm about 5 pounds below my wedding weight, so I'm totally stoked.

QOTD:  I'm Kelly, 29, married for a little over a year.  I'm also a stay at home wife.

    Welcome everyone that is new!
