When I walk into a baby store, I pretty much start hyperventilating

...I've started looking at buying guides.  But for the most part, I haven't seen what I think I want.

I live in a city and need a very tough stroller that can go over bricks, curbs, cobblestones (I live in Boston).  Ideally I'd like a travel system that I can click into a car seat base and then into a stroller easily when we're on the go.  And then ideally I would like it to be a system that works for newborns, older infants, toddlers, etc.  I own a Kia Soul and they are quite roomy on the inside, so I'm not too worried about it fitting because there's lots of legroom and headroom.

Something tells me this is a pipe dream though.  Is it?

  • I've seen some jogging stroller travel systems. These would be rugged enough to go over bumps. Here's one at babiesrus. I haven't checked out the reviews but maybe this will help!

  • It can be really overwhelming!

Have you tried out any travel systems in the store? We thought that was what we wanted, but we found that most of the Graco and Chicco systems were too bulky and hard to move around. We ended up creating our own "travel system" with the Baby Jogger City Mini. You can buy a car seat attachment for the infant seat (works with brands like Graco and Maxi Cosi).

Once the baby is old enough, she can use the City Mini without the car seat attachment. Also, the City Mini folds in half, so it's really easy to use, and it's rugged enough for city streets. It's really lightweight too... Good luck with your choices!

  • It is SO hard.  Thanks for that other system, I can test it this weekend since I'm going to a baby registry event at BRU.

I agree, I don't like these systems that take up the entire sidewalk, but you don't want something so lightweight it falls apart.  Sidewalks here can be rough.

I also have a lot of women running around here with expensive Bugaboo strollers so that distorts things...but I'm wanting to pay what I have to for quality, this is only my first child and I may have as many as 3-4.

  • From what you're describing I would HIGHLY recommend the BOB Revolution stroller with the car seat adapter. It works with most brands of infant seats, just make sure if you do go this route, that they are compatible, I had a Graco Snugride for DS and with the adapter it worked just like a travel system, plus, once LO is out of the infant seat you add the snack tray to the car seat adapter and it continues to be useful. We have had absolutely zero regrets with this stroller and now that we're looking into buying a double, DH is not too happy about having to give up our BOB. I urge you to test a lot of strollers, one mistake people make is walking slowly around a store while testing the stroller then they buy one and realize they're constanly kicking the back, stepping on wheels etc. Make sure you walk at a really good clip just like you would outside. Test them on uneven surfaces and try to pull them up over curbs (this is where the BOB truly shines!) Good Luck!
  • We love out city mini - I suggest you check out some of the baby jogger strollers.  We got an adapter for the infant seat, but DD could go into the stroller right away because of the full recline.    Also the one handed flat fold can't be beat!

  • We got the jeep limited stroller from BRU, I did my research and it sounds like it would work for you too. Its got tires, not plasic wheels, not too pricey, and while its not a travel system, you can put the carseat in it when its in a reclined position and use it as a nrmals stroller when Lo gets older. I LOVE it! My only complaint is its heavy, but I got a cheaper umbrella stroller to throw in my trunk. While I havent personally used it, I have a friend who switched to it because her travel system wasnt cutting it with the plastic wheels. Works great on the beach, so cobble stone roads should be okay too!
  • Good to know guys!  Thanks!

This gives DH and I something to go on.  Amazing how overwhelming the choices can be!!!

  • We got the Bumbleride Indie.  I've heard good things about it and being in the city, trails, beaches etc.  haven't been able to put it to the real test yet.    I've also heard really good things about the Baby Jogger city mini.  I tested out the Bumbleride at a baby store in Easton, MA, but I think the girls who bought it for us got it at a baby store in Canton...I can't think of their names though.  But I do know the store in Easton has a really creepy sales guy/girl and I will never shop there again!
