I feed pumped breastmilk and also supplement more than half of his diet with formula. LO has always eaten a lot (he gained weight the first week, and has never lost weight), but recently he seems to overeat. He's about 2.5 wks now.
He seems to want a bottle to calm himself, but then he'll spit up every bit of what he eats over 3 or 3.5 oz. One night he ate 6 oz in a two or three hour period (waking and sleeping every 30 min or so) and spit up half of it. We offer a paci instead, but he doesn't want it.
I think he is going through a growth spurt right now, but he sure seems to be overeating a lot. He also eats so quickly that he chokes. We have the level one, slow nipples, so I don't think it's a problem with the bottles. I'm not sure if we should let him continue to eat when and however much he wants.
Suggestions please?
Re: Overeating? Eating too fast? Advice please!
Thanks for the advice!
I have been exclusively breast feeding but introduced the bottle of expressed milk last night because i am returning to work in 6 wks. My pedi said to give 2 oz, burp her, then offer 2 more. She is a bit older than your LO, but seems like it should be about the same. I would def talk to the doctor if you are concerned.
