How do you organize coloring books/crafts/paints etc?

I have my son's kind of unorganized thrown in baskets. Looking for a better solution, any suggestions?

Thanks!

  • I put all her books on a bookshelf in the livingroom and her crafts in one of thoes rubbermaid 3 drawer things.  It is not pretty, but it works.

  • All crayons, markers and pencils go in a plastic shoe box, for now.  Some crafts are in bins in my pantry.  I'm thinking about getting one of those carts on wheels with drawers so that I have a place to put all of this stuff.  It's getting out of hand.  I figure I can wheel it over to the kitchen table when they want to use it and put it out of sight when I don't want them to use it.

  • We have a buffet in the dining room that has 2 cabinets underneath. One with drawers behind the doors and one with shelves. I put all the paint, paint brushes, and coloring books in the top drawer of the one side of the buffet (and then other household items in the bottom two). Then I have the rest of the craft stuff organized in a Rubbermaid 3 drawer cart next to the buffet (it's between a wall and the buffet). In the top drawer is paint pens, markers, slick sticks, and crayons. The second drawer I have things like pom poms, stickers, popsicle sticks etc and in the bottom drawer I have paper, foam sheets and felt.

  • I just bought the IKEA "SAMLA" box to put everything in.  It's essentially a tackle box/art bin.  Works well, but we'll probably need another one eventually.  LOL.
  • We're using our jelly cupboard for it all right now LOL  Paper/coloring books on one shelf, markers & crayons & stuff on another, etc.  Close the doors & voila, a lovely dark cherry wood piece of furniture ;-)

I do this, and keep the cart hidden in the laundry room. PAC makes a mess with any arts & crafts supplies if he's unsupervised (i.e., unless I play with him) that I don't have it where he can access them himself.

  • In my mudroom I have open shelves up high that I put baskets in.  I put all markers, paints, playdough, crayons, etc. in those baskets out of reach.
