How often do you eat out/get take out?

Curious...we eat out or get take out typically once a week. Whenever I look at our budget I know eating out should go, but once a week doesn't seem that often to me. Which is odd, since I came from a family that almost never got take out and only went out to dinner on special occasions.

Re: How often do you eat out/get take out?

  • Far too often - my new year's resolution this year is to get down to take-out one evening/week and going out one time on the weekend, though I've asked DH to pick up food tonight since I'm not feeling well so I'm not off to a good start.

  • I voted zero but that is totally a lie.  Dh and I go out/get take out together usually once every two weeks and Dh and I usually go out separately with friends/coworkers about once a month so it ends up being about once a week.

  • WAY to often...I answered for lunch out on weekends too.  It's one of my goals for 2010 (I'm not calling them resolutions LOL).  We really need to reign this in, but with me working and pg it's hard to be motivated to cook as well, dh does what he can but he's not really a cook.
  • When I first considered the question, I only thought about dinners. We get take out for dinner or eat out usually only once a week. But then I thought about lunch. We usually go out to eat for brunch/lunch at least once a week.

Oh ugh - I just thought about lunch during the work week...I'm buying my lunch far too often these days. I go through phases of bringing my lunch every day to being lazy and buying my lunch every day. I need to get back to bringing my lunch at least 3 times a week.

  • i am not counting lunches because i go out to eat for lunch quite often, but as far as dinner we eat out almost every friday and saturday. we LOVE to eat out especially and will plan for one night with just the three of us and the other night out with friends. i dont think it is something i could ever cut back on - i love it too much!

  • We have a standing "dinner date" with friends every Monday evening after work, and then we sometimes go out for Saturday lunch or dinner (one of the meals that day at least). We don't want to cut out our Monday night - because its one of my only chances to have good real conversations with other adults, but we are trying to cut out going out on the weekend because there are some weeks that we have to eat out after one of the away basketball (or whatever sport it is that is in season) games that my dh coaches.
  • I'd say 0-2.  Some weeks its zero.  But if we are invited to go out with friends, etc.... some weeks its two.

  • I voted 3x  -- We only go out to dinner once a week on Fri or Sat (our "date" night), but we'll get breakfast one day on the weekend, and we typically go out for lunch once during the workweek with coworkers. The rest of the time, I make dinner and we pack leftovers for lunch. We started doing this as a means to curtail spending, but in truth I really just enjoy eating healthy which I can't do when we go out.

  • Maybe once a week for dinner (I live on leftovers for lunch most of the time.)

Husband eats in the office cafe every day - and the day he cycles "we" pay for it because carrying lunch on his bike is ridiculous. The days he drives and has the opportunity to take in leftovers then his lunch comes out of his allowance.

That's actually how we work it a lot - if it's just one of us going out for lunch/happy hour/dinner with friends - that comes out of our weekly allowance (pulled out in cash every friday) but if it's the two of us it falls under "couple entertainment" and comes out of our spending account.

  • do lunches count or is this just dinner?

counting going out with friends easily 2-3x per week

including lunches waaay to many x per week

  • We eat out very rarely these days for dinner and get take out maybe twice a month.  We both eat out every day for lunch (his office has a cafe and it is way cheaper for him to eat there than to pack a lunch and I am just lazy :)

  • We eat out way too much...I HATE cooking after working all day.  I need to get better about planning quick meals for the weekdays.

  • We aim for once a week for dinner and once a week for lunch.  Sometimes its more, sometimes its less.

Our problem isn't so much the going out, its the amount that we spend (ie. appetizer, wine, etc.).

  • I added up the 'eating out costs' (lunches, dinners, GNO's etc.) a few months back and it was out of control... after that, I started getting during my weekly grocery shopping trip and once the cash is done, we no longer eat out. Sooo if we want to eat somewhere nicer, we don't eat out as much, if we want to have taco bell, we can eat out quite a few times.

After doing that, our savings has gone through the roof, and I don't feel deprived :) love it!
