Pregnant after a Loss

furbabies sensing labor?

i read somehwere that their behavior can change towrds you when they sense labor is near ( sniffing your crotch more than normal or being lovely dovey when they used to be independent..ect) what are your thoughts? my bigger dog actually bit me the other day when i was inspecting him for ticks, i gently moved his leg and he howl like he was in pain/scared then bit (gently but enough to scare me) my elbow. we thought he was hurt so MH went to check him & baxter had no problems letting MH fondle him.

Re: furbabies sensing labor?

  • Interesting... no idea if it's true but I'll keep an eye out. I did notice yesterday that my dog was acting weird, sniffing my crotch which he never does, and just generally acting jumpy and needy. But no labor signs for me yet.

  • Actually, I asked this question to my doula when she was at my house the other night for our meeting.  She said that animals DO sense labor and she most of the time they will noticeably act differently. She said when you are in active labor they will be protective of you yet give you the space you need.

The other night I was on my birth ball watching T.V. and I had a really intense contraction.  My German Shepherd came and sat next to me and just stared at me.  He was close enough for me to touch him if I wanted to, but far enough to give me space.  He watched me the whole time and didn't go lay down again until I was relaxed and my contractions had passed.  It really freaked my DH out, but they can sense what is going on!
