Am I the only one? Can't watch scary movies about kids

I read The Lovely Bones but there's no way I could watch the movie.  Same goes for TV shows that are about a child being kidnapped, raped, abused, or murdered.  I could barely stomach it before having DS, but since having him it's even worse.  DH is the same way.  If we see something that looks like it's going to focus on bad stuff happening to kids, the channel gets changed.  It's not a "head in the sand" thing.  I know it happens, but why would I pick that subject for entertainment?

  • DH and I are the same way

We also could not watch "my sisters keeper" I kinda want to see it, but not with DH around.  His sister died at the age of 3 from lukemia

  • I'm right there w/ya. Before DS I could handle it...I didn't like it...but I could at least get through the bad parts. Now that I have DS, forgetaboutit.

  • Oh no, you aren't the only one. I also read The Lovely Bones-but the preview for the movie is really creepy! I don't have a desire to see it in theaters. I can understand you not watching stuff that has a child being murdered etc...I would say the same about me, but I love law and order SVU and CI...I think I'm more of a "crime show" junkie, lol.
  • I am the same way.  For me it goes for all violent movies/shows, none of which bothered me in the least before.  Ever since I had a kid I turned into a big ol' pansy and can't take watching people get hurt.

  • i'm a way bad overempathizer.  and having kid has made it worse.  used to i couldn't watch bad things happen to women, b/c identified too much.  or animals.  and now anything with kids, or teenagers, or anyone who used to be a kid, which would classify all adults.  it's fracking ridiculous.  oh, and i get embarrassed for tv characters.  so badly that i have to change the channel if someone is being embarrassed, and cringe, and then change it back after i think the "bad" part has passed.  and i've always done that.

so, yes, i should probably just lock myself in a box now, or only watch uplifting comedies where no one gets embarrassed.

  • I am there with you! Even primetime shows like Grey's.... if they are showing something happening to a child I cant watch it. I am very sensitive!

Ha ha, I do that too!  I love The Office, but I just can't watch some of it.
