Babies: 9 - 12 Months

where do you bathe LO?

This is one of those things I feel really dumb about. It's so simple, yet so baffling. :)

We have this tub. Obviously it worked great in the newborn stage set in/on the kitchen sink. A while back I tried it once in the bathtub but it was difficult to bed over her and pick her up without my back freaking out.

She can sit up on her own now, so I took the newborn hammock thingy out. She sits just fine with her bottom half in the water.

Two issues:

1. It's hard to wash her diaper area while it's underwater, but she's not stable enough to stand up while I do it.

2. She has learned to splash around, which makes it very messy & wet in the kitchen. I'd like to use it in my bathtub but it's still awkward to bend over and move her around.

What do y'all do? Why do the simple things confuse me? :)

  • In the duck with the squeakless beak.

  • Honestly, we shower with DS.  It's easy and quick.  We'll move him into the tub once he can sit without assistance and is more steardy.

We have the duck too F seems to love it. We got it at Target.

  • I've been struggling with this same issue. Nothing seems to work well for us right now.
  • In the regular bathtub. It's easy to wash her diaper area when she's crawling around!

  • We have an infant tub.  She fits in it well for now.
  • The duck tub from Munchkin is awesome.  He could use it when he couldn't sit and now when he sits.  It's got traction on the bottom so LO can't slide as easily and if they do tip over, it's got cushion.  The only downfall is the size, but it's not so bad.  We just stick it to the wall in the shower when not in use.

ETA:  He leans up against the tail for me to get in his diaper area and for me to rinse his hair out.

  • We have that tub too. For the longest time DH showered with DS because it was easier and DS hates his tub. Now he sits in the toddler side and splashes all over the place. You are right though, it's hard to wash his nether regions. We have to tag team to do this area or if I'm along I bathe hm in the big tub with me. We put his blue tub into the bath tub.

  • I have a very similar tub as yours and use it in the tub. When I wash DS by myself, I don't get to scrub his butt. I'm too uncomfortable trying to hold a wet, slippery baby in one arm and trying to manuver soap and a washcloth in the other to wash. I figure he gets his butt cleaned every day with wipes and sitting in soapy water has to help some. One the weekends DH helps me and one of us holds him up while the others washes his butt. Bending over the tub hurts my back too but we can be done a bath in 5-7 minutes so it's really not that long.

If you come up with any other solutions let me know!

  • I bathe her in her tub in the bathroom but I get on my knees or sit on the floor so I don't have to bend over
  • We have the big, inflatable duck tub. DS loves it. As soon as he hears anyone go into the bathroom (at any time of day) he takes off running towards the tub, saying "duh, duh, duh..." (we think this means "duck").

It's inflatable, has a hot sensing sticker in the bottom. the beak quakes when you squeeze it. It has traction for LO's tush. Our LO loves that he can stretch out or sit up.

  • We just stick her in the regular tub. I fill it about 3" and we manage just fine. I pick her up and sling her over my left arm to clean her diaper area and then put her back down. Sometimes I still put her in the kitchen sink if I'm not feeling up to bending over the tub, but when all else fails, she might get a sponge-bath.

In my opinion, the less unessential baby gear clutter, the better; ie; baby bathtub.

  • We also have the duck tub and LOVE IT!  We have it in our spare bathroom bathtub and I just sit or kneel on the floor in front of the tub while he is in it.  I let him splash and play in the water for 5-10 mins and then I get a washcloth really soapy and start scrubbing him up, starting with the head, at which time I pull the plug in the duck tub so the water starts to drain.  By the time I get down to his diaper area the water is out so I can scrub the front of him while he is sitting, I then stand him up and get a firm grip on one arm and kind of drape his body over my arm, allowing me to quickly scrub his bottomside.  He then sits back down and I rinse him with fresh water from the faucet.

The best part of the duck tub is it's price, I think I paid about $11-12 at Target for it.

  • We have the exact same tub.  I just put it in the big bathtub and sit on my feet (which does hurt after a few minutes).  I only put him in the tub maybe once a week.  The other days he comes in the shower with me (since it's soo much easier).  He also doesn't like the bath just yet...so the shower is easier.  I don't really use the tub to clean him...just to get him used to the bath.

I don't think a bath gets them very clean anyways.  Like you said, it's hard to clean the diaper area when they're sitting on their bum.

We have that tub too. I just drape them over my arm to wash their diaper area. We use it in our big tub and I have a kneeling pad to save my knees from the hard floor. But, I am looking for something else now because they are just getting way too big for it.
