This might be a stupid question.

But I'm going to ask it anyway. =]

When I was in labor with Z, I went in Sunday afternoon, labored throughout the night, and had her at 6:59 Monday morning.  Sometime during the night I had some pain medication.  (Just once, and honestly I didn't feel a difference.)  It only lasted a couple hours and had definatly worn off by the time I started pushing.  I didn't have an epi or anything else.  Does this count as a natural birth?  I want to say yes, but I'm guessing it would be a no to most people.  Just want to get this cleared up. =]

  • According to Bradley teachings, no.  However, most people consider vaginal birth to be natural so you could get away with it ;)  Plus you still get kuddos from me, I had a pretty short labor (8.5 hours) so that made going totally med-free easier.

  • To me that sounds natural. I consider the cut-off to be epidurals and cesareans. It's at least "more natural than others." Smile
  • I don't want to tell people I went natural if I really didn't! =]  Lol.

  • I would say yes! But that's b/c my labor was not at all what I wanted! DD was 13 days late and the induced me with cervadil. I went med free for 16 hours and they finally did a c-section b/c of destress on DD. It wasn't what I wanted but we are both here so I'm happy. DD was wrapped in her cord 4 times and it was holding her very high. I wouldn't of been able to go natural if I wanted too:( my next one will be if I can. So yes I consider you to have given natural birth:)
  • For many of the folks I talk to about childbirth, they believe Vaginal = Natural.  Depends on who you're talking to.  Purists [those no med types] would probably say that you should clairify about the drugs...

    You did fine.
