Does anyone have any good natural remedies for fighting off colds/sore throats, etc. DH is getting sick (again) last time he didn't give it to me, but I was also traveling so I think the distance helped. He seems to be coming down with something again and I just feel that scratchy throat coming on and wanting to avoid getting sick. Besides OJ, vitamin C, etc. anyone have any other good natural remedies?
TIA!
Re: Natural remedies for fighting off colds
Sore Throat Remedy
1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar (if you can get the kind with the mother in it it is even better)
1 cup water
mix together and gargle several times a day until your throat is better.
Gargle with warm salt water
Go to a drugstore and buy a neti pot (looks like a small plastic teapot) and use it to rinse your nose and sinus cavities with warm salt water
Airborne
Zicam Rapid Melt tablets - the zinc is supposed to inhibit virus replication.
Black Elderberry extract
I've also heard that rabbit tobacco works, but I've never tried it myself.
This is not necessarily a remedy for fighting it off, but a slight cure for sore throat... gargle with childrens motrin. I know it sounds gross, but it actually numbs the throat and really does help it feel better faster. An old Dr told me about it and it really works. Other than that, start using the saline spray now to keep it at bay and try Air Borne- I haven't used it but I think I'm going to give it a try after this latest bout. Good luck... whatever you do, try not to get sick while pregnant- you can't take anything good!!!

To try and prevent getting a cold, I take extra zinc and vitamin C daily. If I feel like I'm getting sick, I take them morning and night and it helps. I started doing this after I started teaching and was getting sick all of the time. When I was pregnant, my dr told me I could use those Zicam nose swab things and they seemed to help. I have always done the gargle warm salt water too but those others sound good. I actually like the way the Airborn drink tablets taste so I use those sometimes too. They have lemon lime and orange and you just add them to your bottled water.
