Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What the hell happened here?

Kate has gone to bed without a fight for months and slept 12 hours without waking up. I put her down tonight and she creamed her head off. For an hour! Everything the same. Gave her some tylenol b/c I thought she might be teething, which made no difference. No fever, doesn't seem like she has an ear infection (she's had several, this was different). She was fine when I picked her up, but the second I put her down, screams.

After 1+ hour, I finially let her fall asleep in my arms then put her in her crib. I don't think she'll stay asleep. Any ideas!?!

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

Re: What the hell happened here?

  • Ben did the EXACT same thing for a few nights right before Christmas.  I took him into the pedi twice CONVINCED he had an ear infection.  Nope, just random screaming that stopped the second we picked him up.  It only lasted a few nights and then he was back to his normal down without a fight and 12 hours.  Who knows what happened?!

  • No ideas, but my DS has done the same thing the last few nights. I finally busted out the old trick of running the vacuum last night to help chill him out (which it did) and he fell asleep to that last night. (Although when he was screaming his head off, I joined him in the crying!)

Tonight I just put him down and he is in his crib starring at his aquarium and hasn't made a peep yet.

These babies like to throw us for loops don't they?!

  • Did she eat anything different today?  DD has gone through these episodes off an on since 8 months. I usually can't find anything wrong with her.  She usually stays down once she falls asleep.
  • DS started screaming like I was stabbing him with a thousand knives about a month ago if I put him in his crib and he wasn't fully awake.  I think it's a combination of teething and learning how to throw tantrums.  Now tonight I put him in his crib when he seemed to be wide awake, left the room, and he fell asleep without crying.  Usually I have to rock/nurse him into a deep sleep or he wakes up and does the screaming thing.  Weird kids.
  • We are dealing with the same thing, only DS also wakes up a bajillion times a night. When he does he wants nothing but me. No food, no pacifier, not hot/cold, just to be held. Normally this would make me feel all warm and lovey but not at 2am for the third time that night already.

I feel your pain. If you find a solution let me know please. ?

  • Ella was doing this also..It was driving me nuts! But it went on for about 4 days and ended.

I think our babies just want to be close to us!

  • I've had the same issue with LO, he wakes up with a painful cry, but as soon as he is being held the tears go away. As soon as we lay him back down he freaks out. I started rocking him but this was becoming a nightly thing. So now I check that he's ok, diaper,no fever etc and then put him down, he will scream sometimes up to 2 hours, but most of the time he's out in half hour.  I go in every 10 minutes try to reassure him and then leave again.

I feel your pain, all you want to do is pick them up, and cry along with them. Hopefully it's just a phase.
