bottles and bottles and bottles..oh my

Hi mommies! How the heck did you decide what bottles to try with LO? I have some recommendations from friends to try Dr. Browns...but there are so many choices that look so great I am having trouble. Do I get a few choices.. or just one? What are your suggestions and brands for bottles...

thank you all :):)

Re: bottles and bottles and bottles..oh my

  • I just bought some of everything.  Dr Browns leak REALLY bad, worse than any other brand, and the nipple shape is awful if you're breast feeding.  Avent are ok but leak a bit and don't prevent gas.  We like Born Free and Playtex Dropins the best.

  • I love the playtex drop ins. We have used them ever since LO was born. I tried the Dr. Browns but the nipple is to small and LO hates this. I use them only to store breastmilk in them.
  • I got a couple different ones to try BUT dd does the best with Dr.Browns!

Just pick a few different ones that u wanna try and try them out when ur LO gets here!! U'll never know what works best unless u try a few different ones!!

     Good Luck!

  • we first got avent b/c a couple aunts had used them with their kiddos, and we got a few of the munchkin glass ones.  well, the avent ones started leaking really really bad, and i just wasn't loving the glass ones, so we returned the avent ones for their defect and the unopened munchkin ones and got dr. brown's, recommended by another couple aunts, and we haven't looked back. they are awesome.  the only time one leaked was when DH didn't put all the pieces in there :)
  • I received a buttload of playtex dropins for free (from the baby show, from community groups, etc...), so the ones that weren't brand new, I just bought new nipples for, and she's been fine on them.

I was up cursing like crazy in the middle of the night because the bottle was leaking everywhere. Finally I realized that I hadn't put any of the pieces back in. I'll never forget them again!  :)

  • We use Dr. Brown's or Playtex Ventair and LOVE them!  If you're BF I suggest using a wide mouth nipple to lessen nipple confusion.  Or LC recommended Adiri bottles for BF moms because the nipple is very close to the breast, but the company is going out of business.  You can find them for a discounted price on Amazon though.

I have at least 30 dr browns, every one leaks like crazy with all the pieces.  And forget shaking up formula, HUGE mess!

  • I started using playtex ventaire recommend by my ped for gas and they work great and they're not too expensive
  • We started with drop ins, but DS is very gassy and they were making things worse.  Plus, we had so many problems with the nipples clogging up (not sure why).

So we just switched to Dr. Browns, and couldn't be happier.  They are awesome for our LO.  But it is all about what your LO will like best.

  • We use Born Free both the glass and plastic. DS has never had a problem with the nipple, and while the # of pieces is a bit much, you get used to it after awhile.
  • I was using the medela bottles that came with the pump and at first DD liked them, but it took forever for her to feed. Then I tried drop ins and she hated them, same with avent and born free.

Since she uses a MAM paci so well I looked for their bottles and she loves them!

  • We also love the Playtex Drop Ins or even Avent is okay.  By the way, my daughter is also breastfed...if this helps.
  • I'm using Playtex drop-ins now, but I'm sick of buying the liners, so we are slowly switching over to Zo-li or thinkbaby bottles.

  • We use The first years Breastflow and love them. They are made to be more like a breast and the baby has to work to get the milk out, just like breastfeeding.
