Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you let LO sleep with a lovey?

And do you find it makes a difference in their sleep? I'm *this* close to letting keep them tonight instead of pulling them out like we usually do. I'm desperate here. We had a total of 75 mins in naps and 3.5 hours of broken sleep last night.

  • Nope, but if they do great with them at first, I say go for it if you feel comfortable with the idea.

  • yes, and [gasp] a light blanket. She isn't very interested in it though, so I don't think it really does anything. BUT, if they do seem to help them get to sleep then I think it is worth trying out.

  • Yes, she has slept with a lovey since she was 1 month old.  We started using one super early and it immediately made a world of difference in the quality of her sleep- the second I put it on my shoulder and give her the paci, she puts her head down on my shoulder because she knows it is nap/bedtime.  B's lovey is the giraffe Angel Dear lovey.

  • Does this mean the mittens didn't work?
  • DD uses a lovey and a glow worm. The lovey is great

  • yes, C does.  he is to the point now where when I give it to him his eyes start closing and he cuddles it lol (I do still rock to sleep though).
  • DD is very, very hard to get to sleep unless she has her lovey. We let her fall asleep with it and take it out once she is asleep. Works wonders. Good luck.
  • Yes and I must say that DD started sleeping SO much better when I let her keep it all night.  She still gets up at least once a night, but she settles much more easily now that I snuggle it up to her cheek and let her nuzzle into it to fall asleep.

DD's lovey is the Angel Dear pony blanket - so soft and cuddly!

  • Yep, He has a dog about the size of a beanie baby that he just loves. He sleeps holding it in both hands above his head. So cute.  Yes I think it makes a difference. He knows that when I bring out the dog he cuddles it and goes to sleep.

  • DS won't sleep without his. He sucks on his tongue and has his lovey against his tongue.
  • Do you think it helps them STTN? They go to sleep with them fine but I'm wondering if keeping them in the cribs with them will help settle them when they stir/wake.

  • yup. Kate's had one since about 4 months. I nursed her holding it for a while, then it got my scent. She rubs it on her face, sucks on its little tag, and goes to sleep (well, usually. I think she's teething tonight).
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • We let DS start sleeping with a small fleece lovey when he was about six months, right after he mastered rolling over both ways.  He LOVES it, and watching him on the video monitor when he's falling asleep or when he wakes up in the middle of the night, I can tell it provides him a lot of comfort when he needs it.
  • Lovey + blanket since about 5 or 6 months old.
  • Yep. They both sleep with one of these.

I went and got 3 more when I lost one a few weeks ago. They LOVE them and snuggle them all night.

  • I just went out and bought 2 spare loveys for DS.  One to rotate through the wash and one to send to daycare when he starts in a couple of months.

  • Yes, but she is not attached to it. She could probably go either way. I started giving it to her because when I would sit with her and rock she kept slapping me in the face. Her lovey was a distraction for her.

  • Yes we do.  They've had the small square blanket things with a head in their cribs since they were about 7 months old.  Nathan LOVES his.  It calms him down even during the day if necessary... he rolls around with it, talks to it, and cuddles.  Joey I'm not sure really loves his but he does sleep with it.

  • A doesn't, but mostly because she isn't attached to anything. If she wanted it, I would let her.

  • We let DS sleep with the FP seahorse.  We often wake up to the sound of the seahorse, and smile as he falls back asleep.  At this age I don't think its a problem, also it means we get a lot more sleep.
