Baby shower bingo

I know most people aren't fan of shower games,  I'm debating about having Bingo at mine, at least it helps keep people entertained during the gift opening.  My question, I've played both ways - squares that are already filled in, and squares that you fill in yourself.  What is your preferance?

  • I am not a fan of shower games.  But went to one this fall with bingo and I thought it was a lot of fun!  I am not sure what you meant by filled in or fill in yourself.  They gave us all a filled out bingo grid (each box had different baby related item).  Then we would cross off item as it was opened.  I thought it was great...although I heard from the girls planning that it was quite a bit of work getting the grids completed.

  • At mine we did the one where the guests filled the squares in themselves.  It didn't work out well.  Everyone bingo-ed way too early.  They put all the stuff that they bought so it made it easier.  Then we ran out of prizes too quick.  Mine probably was just poorly organized by my hostess, but it had good intentions!  Good Luck and have fun!
  • The guests at my shower filled in the blanks and then the Bingo part just kind of fell apart. People were just more interested in seeing if they got anything right and a prize was given to the person who had the most.

Thats why I was thinking I would let the guests fill in the boxes themselves, based off of what they thing the gifts are. But then, I suppose that is a bit harder because everybody would have different things on their card.  I'm sure I've played that way though.

  • The cards at my shower were prefilled, and my Mom had gotten like 6 presents or something, so at least 6 people got prizes. It was cute, and it busied people. She also named it "BABY-O", since my last name begins with an O. I thought that was really cute. :)

The only annoying thing was how ridiculously competitive my 45 yr old sister-in-law got. Sheesh. The prizes were just candles!!!

  • You could premake the BINGO cards on your computer. Either put words or cut and paste pictures of items. You could even cut and paste pics from your registry to make it more personal.
  • When I gave a shower, I had the cards already filled in, with items that I saw had been purchased off the mom-to-be's registry, along with some other basics that I was sure would turn up.  I wanted to make sure there was a winner.

I'm not big into games, either, but Bingo did kind of keep people occumpied during gift opening which, frankly, is kind of boring for guests, IMO.

  • At my sister's shower, we let the guests fill in their cards themselves.  The problem is, everyone writes what they are giving to the Momma in a  straight line so yeah, they Bingo early.   What we did instead was, told them to fill in their cards, then we played postage stamp (the top right corner 4 squares) then we continued after the first Bingo, and played kite rite ( go diagonal from top right where you had the postage stamp, down to the bottom left)  then we played a cover all ( cover all the squares on your board).   We didn't tell them ahead of time that it wasn't going to be "normal" Bingo.

You could also do little diamond, big diamond, inside square, outside square patterns too.

  • I have done it both ways and I prefered the grids to already be filled out. I love baby shower bingo! Have fun.

  • We're doing the filled in one at my shower next Saturday. Here's the website for the template we're using:

  • Thanks ladies.  I think I'm going to avoid the bingo, after the few reviews above and how it can turn into chaios.

After searching google for a while, I found a nursery rhyme memory, seems fun and kinda cute.... its different clues - Irrerparible egg. Girl that took her pet to school, etc. And then you have to figure out which nursery rhyme it is.

I may try that one and see how it goes.
