I'm a first time mom so I'm looking for any advice I can get. I got together with a bunch of experienced moms this weekend and they all told me the same thing "Don't bother getting a Pack-n-Play, we NEVER use ours."
You'd get a better response on one of the parenting boards (0-3, 3-6, 6-12 mos). I'm not buying one because I know that it'd be a waste of money for us.
We bought one with a bassinet top and used it every night for the 1st 3 months. I have used it a whopping total of 4 times since then. I loved it for a bassinet but haven't had to use it too much since then. I know some girls on the boards had there kids live in them. I will use mine much more this time around to keep my toddler away from my baby!
I got one and haven't used it yet, but I plan to use it when traveling so LO has a place to sleep. Other moms use it on different levels of their home for nap time. Some use it in their rooms when the baby is 1-2 months old.
Everyones needs are different.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Our nursery is upstairs, so we are keeping the PNP downstairs....to use it for daytime napping and a changing table. I dont want to be back and forth upstairs a zillion times a day. All of my friends that had 2 story homes used theirs a lot for this very reason.

Didn't even think about that!! I'm so new to this stuff! I'm getting one for the first 2-3 months when the baby will stay in our room and was wondering how often it would be used after...now I know...it'll move down to the living room and I won't have to run up and downstairs 10 times a day (except for laundry, clothes changes, and if the puppy hides under our bed )
we never got one and never regretted it. We have a one story condo though. If we had a house, I probably would have gotten one, but now it is just easier to take DD to her room for changes/naps. But that said, my parents got her the PBK anywhere chair for Hanukkah and DD LOVES the box. So it is kind of like having a playpen - we do stick her in the box from time to time
And with the delivery trifecra of one twin vaginal, one c-section with general anesthesia for twin B, Spencer and Sidney joined us at 35 weeks exactly on June 18.
If you travel to visit family/friends often, then I'd highly suggest a PNP. I keep one at my home for my nephew (who has 16 months). I often keep him on weekends and since he doesn't have a crib at my home - he uses his PNP. Whenever I take him over to family/friends homes and know that I will be there during his naptime - the PNP is my best friend.
I used mine alot but both our familys live 2 hrs away and stayed over night alot. We also used it for the first few weeks because I had an unplanned c-section so it was nice having it in the living room with extra clothes and diapers so I did not have to walk to her room every time.
Since I'm having this baby beginning of June and we will be ready to be out and about in the summer, I'd like to get a good pack n' play for travel and carting around for visiting and spending time by the pool or outdoors, etc. Any recommendations for an easy packing, lightweight travel pack n' play I should register for? I'm also looking to use it in the house. I have 2 labs and I'd like to have the option of having the baby in the pack n' play rather than on the floor or in a bouncer. Any suggestions?
We use ours more than I thought we would. When she was little, we kept it downstairs for changing/daytime naps (had we not been given a bassinet, we would have used it in our room for her to sleep in). Since then, we use it when we go out of town or to friends' homes--it has come in handy for several football get-togethers! Lately, she was really sick and so she slept i the pnp in our room.
guess i'm in the minority here (well maybe not exactly) but we have two (twins) and LOVE THEM. I have hte kind w/ bassinet & the changing table. The bassinet was great when they were very small & slept in our room & then in the family room (we shift slept down there with them) before transitioning to cribs. The changing table was sooo convenient when they were in our room & also on the first floor of our house since we dont have another changing table down here & it's so much easier than ont he floor or couch (I change their clothes on there too, so easy on the back), not to mention one of my twins is a boy so you get some surprises when changing his diaper that are much easier to clean up on the PNP rather than the couch/carpet. I plan to move one to our playroom now that we don't need two of them in the family room anymore, just as a place to stick one/both of them if I need to run to the bathroom or go to another room or whatever when we're playing since they can roll now.
Also as far as travel, we went to my mom's for Xmas and she borrowed 2 PNPs (just to save us room in the car) and it was great to have those portable cribs. We took one to my SILs for Xmas eve for them to nap in too. Hands down the most useful thing we got, after our double snap n go.
We are planning on getting a play yard for baby. We are not getting a crib. I like the idea of being able to move it around our house (or take it with us somewhere else) and it has a bassinet and change table... altho i don't know for how long we will use that part, we didn't want a full sized play pen.
You could get a second hand one if you don't want to pay full price for something you will use once.
We used it quite often for DS. First 3 months he was in our room, and we travel quite a bit so it was put to good use. If you don't travel alot, I wouldn't reccomend getting one, though. We never use it at home anymore and haven't since DS was 3-4 months old.

We're skipping it for right now. I always thought we'd get one, but the more I think about it, the less I think we'd use it. Of course, we live in a two-bedroom apartment and the baby's nursery is going to be in our bedroom, so there's really no need.
If we lived in a bigger home, we'd probably get one.

YES!
We have ours in the living room and love it! Ours has a changing table w/ it and it saves us from having to go upstairs to change ds.
One of the best items we registered for!
