3rd Trimester

3 days PP, What i could not live without...

This was my first and I'd thought I'd share what I really need on hand right now:

Stayfree overnight pads, these are great.  I had bought the always infinity pads and they didn't cut it.

Lanolin cream.

Nipple shield, this was given to me at the hospital and has come in extremely handy!

Paci's and lots of them.  For me it hasn't caused any problems with breast feeding.

My boppy pillow, goes with me everywhere.

Vaseline for his circumcision.

Tylenol or alieve and warm baths.  I have a 4th degree tear and these have been life saving.

Swaddling blankets.

That's all I can think of now.  If you have any questions for me please feel free to ask!  I had a vacuum assisted birth and labored for 11 hours, 6 hours med free.

Thanks. I've been trying to decide which pads to get so I'm glad to hear some reviews.

Pads what are pads? I don't think I've owned a pad in years!

Sweetpea did you find certain underwear better than others?

  • This might be a stupid question but what is nipple sheild? And way to go with no meds, I wish I was strong enough to make it through that!
  • Crap I just bought Always Infinity today. I had no idea what was good as I never use them- the box does say you can get your money back though if you don't like them...guess I'll give it a shot and then send DH out for different ones if they don't work for me.
  • I also could not live without my colace and squirt bottle to "rinse" down there after going potty.

Also, butting in about underwear but I lived in those mesh panties for the first 3 days after the hospital. I did not wear regular underwear for about a week.

  • loved those mesh panties after a vaginal delivery! Seriously!

Ditto all of this.  The hospital provided me with Colace and my own little skirt bottle which I LOVED for at least a week.  Some girls absolutely hate the mesh underwear but they were all I wanted for days.  They're ENORMOUS so they fit well over the diaper you pretty much wear for a while.

  • The hospital mesh undies are really good for c-section too.... I didn't take any from the hospital and wish I had.  My incision is very low and all my underwear hit it at a bad spot.

    So.... steal those undies!

  • Take all the pads they will give you! Ask for more! Always ask them for the nipple cream. Get all you can from the hospital.

Also clean out the baby drawer. Get more of the cloth wipes from them to bring home.

I wish someone told me this but make sure you drink metamucil for 2 weeks after delivery. OMG can I tell you there is nothing worse then stuck poop!

  • good luck with your recovery.  a 4th degree tear, yikes!  and enjoy your new baby :)
  • I had a fourth degree tear with my first child so I know what you are going through.  But, I was sent home with percoset to take for the first week pp and it made all the difference.  After that I was able to step down to Tylenol and the pain was bearable.  Hang in there!
  • We just had our little girl this week, too. I have a post-bathroom routine that helps: clean off with water bottle, spray whole area with numbing spray (only use a few times/day), layer pad with Tucks, apply preparation H cream if you have hemmies. Definitely grab as many of the mesh panties as you can! Your hospital will probably send you home with a bunch of goodies.

I also really recommend using an ice pack for the first day or so and taking the pain meds--if you take them regularly it will keep you from getting too uncomfortable.

Generally, expect things to be pretty messy. Don't even mess with cute nightgowns, etc. while at the hospital.

These were the best.  I wore mesh panties for about 5 days.

  • I had a c-section and LOVED the mesh panties, I took home a box of them and washed and reused them for 4 weeks!
