I don't like it for a girl at all. It's a very common surname here in Louisiana, and the only people I know of who have it as a first or middle name are boys (and I believe in those instances it's the mom's maiden name).
If it's a family name, maybe you could use it as a middle name. But I don't think it works as a first name for a girl at all.
all i see is Laundry, and then when i say it, it even sounds like someone with a weird accent saying "laundry"
Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months.
Sorry, but I have to agree with it sounding like a boy. Especially since I'm a big fan of Friday Night Lights and that is one of the character's names.

Babywearing, cloth diapering, formula and breastmilk feeding, still can't believe I'm a mom, momma to my little man, two furbabies, and two angel babies.
I actually like it...but I am in the south too and goodness knows we love our surnames for first names and gender neutral/masculine names for girls. I love Emerson and it was on our top 3 list for a girl (as was Reid which got trashed on this board for a girl).
That is not a name that would be used at all where I live, but seeing that you are in the South, I think it might be more popular. It does sound like a last name, but that seems to be a trend that a lot of people are following right now.

No! Sounds very masculine and I don't even like it for a boy. Plus, it reminds me of the dorky kid on Friday Night Lights.
SO excited for you!
(read it. you know you want to.)

I agree with all of this.
Well dang it. Most ladies hated Emerson when I first mentioned it as well. Perhaps it'll grow on ya'll.
Thanks Mandy!!!! : )
This, though a Nestie on my local board in using Landry Kate.
I lived in Dallas for 35 years and wouldn't have thought about that. : )
