I have a nasty sinus cold and can't breath through my nose... And all the other beautiful symptoms that come with a cold. I've been drinking lemon and honey and hot water like its going out of style, gargling with salt water, drinking like a fish and TRYING to get extra sleep... Any other tricks out there that have worked for you?!?!?
Thanks!?
Re: What cold remedies have you used while pregnant?
I do the hot steam thing too, although usually I just go with a hot shower. If I'm extra special miserable I'll actually hang out in the bathroom tub reading a book until the steam in the bathroom dissipates...the only thing that helps me normally is NyQuil, not what you'd call pg-friendly.
I'm on day 10 of a miserable cold. I've been using the neti pot every morning to flush out my sinuses, and have been sleeping next to a Vicks warm air humidifer. My Dr. didn't clear many drugs for me, but I read online that I could take Robitussin DM. (Didn't help) Regular Mucinex is also okay. I ended up just taking Unisom so I could try to get to sleep.....I was on the fence about anything with pseudophedrine in it, and my Dr. was adamant that there wasn't enough research on echinacea so I couldn't drink any echinacea tea.
Anyway, sorry I'm not more helpful. I found being pregnant and having a cold to be pretty miserable.

I am lurking a little.... I guess I am a few days away from joining you ladies. Anyway, I had an appointment yesterday and asked because I woke up with the beginning of a cold and my dr said to increase the Vitamin C intake and if necessary Tylenol cold and sinus is ok.
Feel better.
?
I second the nyquil thing, but I do have some tylenol cold so maybe i'll try that... is the cold/sinus one ok??
hot towel. tea and lemon. bath. sleep.
I would try to avoid over the counter meds, your body is trying to fight off something naturally. Let mother nature do its job. Just because Doctors say its ok doesn't mean it always is, make sure you do your own research too.
I had a horrible cold right before Christmas. I wanted it gone right away so I could actually have a Christmas. I took Sudafed (the regular kind you have to get from the pharmacist-NOT PE). It was on my approved meds list and I checked on here and elsewhere before taking it. Oh, and with the pharmacist. Everyone else said the regular kind was on their approved, and that Drs. have been prescribing it for a very long time.
That said, I took as little as possible. I also used the chest rub, sore throat drops, and the chloresceptic (spelling?) spray, which was on my approved list too.
I avoided taking any type of "cold medicine" even before i was pregnant.
I found that taking Vitamin B complex, zinc lozenges, probiotics and Vitamin C will help with your cold.
To clear your nose, drinking broth with some cayenne pepper should help to unclog that. Avoid dairy and wheat products as they can make the congestion worse. I think anise tea will help with your nose too. If you go to a health food store, in the tea section, they should have a bronchial tea, and it works wonders for me.
Keep drinking the lemon and honey in hot water, and the gargling.

Doc said Tylenol cold and sinus was fine so I've taken I think 1 pill.
