Does anyone own a portable dishwasher??

as opposed to a built in one?

How do these work? Do you wheel it over to your sink area, hook it up to the water, and let it run and then wheel it away?

Is there a brand/type you recommend?

We're considering a rental that does not have a dishwasher, and I had never heard of a portable dishwasher until tonight!

Re: Does anyone own a portable dishwasher??

  • My mom had one when I was a teenager and that is what she did. We lived in an older home without a dishwasher. You just need to make sure you have space to keep it. She had a Whirlpool with a nice butcher block top. She probably had it for about 10 years and she loved it! Much cheaper than a kitchen remodel.

  • We do...I use it everyday until I can finally get my remodel in the Spring & have for over a year.  It's a Kenmore & yeap, you roll it over, plug it into an outlet & attach the hose to the faucet--that's it.  Much better than doing them by hand.

  • I never knew they made these/  I have a stupid question where does the dirty water go?

  • You hook the water hose up to your faucet and there is another hose that drains from the dishwasher into your sink...it just goes down the drain.  Just make sure the kitchen has plenty of space for the dishwasher.  I never had one but my friend had one for years and loved it.  Personally, I thought it was more a pain and much more time consuming that just washing the dishes by hand.
  • My parents are on their 4th one.  They've had one ever since I can remember and I'm 28.  2 of them leaked and one was too small.

I THINK my mom has a Whirlpool or Kenmore now.  She didn't like the Maytag one she had.  They're a godsend really.  She uses hers as a portable island.  It has a butcher block top and she uses it as extra counter space when doing a lot of cooking.
