I would NEVER leave my child in a room with an adult that I see once every 6 months.
And actually, assuming it's the first visit, you've never even met this person before. NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY!
I have brought Joey to the pedi about 15 times since he has been born (I'm guessing) and I still would not leave him in the room alone with his doctors. And I LOVE his doctors. And I trust them, medically speaking. Aside from that, call me paranoid, but I don't know a damn lick about them.
Re: The whole dentist thing....
There is no way I could do that with my child. He would freak out and would not cooperate in any way, shape, or form.
There is a dentist that works downstairs from me that I wouldn't mind spending some alone time with...But that's another story. LOL
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
Liam is 5!

This seriously made me LOL and I rarely ever actually laugh out loud reading posts.
I think it's crazy to expect a parent to leave their kid in that situation.
I don't think it would be about trust for me...I just couldn't do that to my kid! I can't imagine how scary it would be for him!
What's with all the hotness at work, Bubbly? You've mentioned it before...I think I wanna come visit!
My DD's dentist does not allow parents back. He is never alone with the kids. They are all in one room with 3 hygentist, but I am in the waiting room until they are done and DD is done and he talks to me.
He is the best pediatric dentist around, everyone I know takes their kids there and you cannot get an appointment if you wait more than a month from the last appointment to make one.
Kap, I swear I am surrounded by man candy. Everywhere I look there's hotness.
Have I mentioned how much I love my job?

no wonder!
See - I hated the communal room thing. It's the main reason I'm switching DS this time around. It just seemed so 3rd world/cheap/factory/assembly line to me.
I have a hottie for a dentist too. :-)
Funny never thought of it that way. Maybe if the room looked medical and factory type to me it would seem that way. Each chair is a different type of locomotion (E choose a rocket to sit in), and each has their own TV and toys. I just never thought of it like that and it does not bother me at all, now I would never see an adult dentist like that but I understand why the ped is like that.
Our pediatric dentist is set up the same way. We could go back there if we wanted to, but ds is such an easy going kid, he probably assumes I don't...lol.
I obviously didn't see the OP, but that seems so weird to me that people would take their kids to any medical professional that wouldn't let them be in the room, too. I guess I just never even thought of such a thing.
DS's pedi dentist is AWESOME. We were both there with him the whole time. I don't think I'd go see a pediatric doctor of any sort who wouldn't allow me to stay with my child.

This.
It's so not a big deal. You can go back or stay in the waiting room which you could spit and hit the dentist in the face from if you tried. Nothing factoryish godcomplexyish thirdworldish or cheap about it or whatever else you might assume. I've done both...sat in the waiting room a few feet away AND gone back. Either way, the kid is NEVER ever alone with anyone. There are two or more hygienists per kid plus a dentist. She's awesome as is her staff. But I'm a way laid back person so maybe I think nothing of it.
I thought I read that the first appointment she COULD go back...but after that no. I'm sure if she explained the situation her DD has they will not make her adhere to the rule.
As for me going back with my kids...it depends. I've been back in the rooms and they have no doors. It's not like anything can happen since they are open to the hallway and anyone (patients, other parents, employees, etc) walk by all the time. That is why I say it depends. If they close the door...that is a red flag for me. My DS (all my kids) have never had a problem with the dentist or the doctor though.
I was the OP. The first appt you would be allowed back, but for following appts, they would not let you back. Just the kid.
Using the hand mixer to make cookies makes her cover her ears and get upset with the noise. And I can't run more than one appliance at one time otherwise it affects her. I cannot imagine her alone back there having a cleaning or work done.
