How much cereal did you give LO the first time? How/when did you increase it. I read on the package and in a few places to mix 1 tablespoon with BM or Formula to desired consistency. I did this to make it a little runny. I read the first time they often dont' take much. He ate it all and would have taken more. We had nursign issues yesterday which seem to be better now. My friend thinks you are only supposed to give 1 teaspoon. Did I over feed him? I am not giving him any this morning but if he nursed well all day I was going to give some this evening, how much should I give?
Re: how much cereal?
I started with 2tbsp cereal and enough formula to make a runny soup. The next few times I added more cereal to make it a cream-soup consistency and now use 2oz formula and enough cereal to make it thick like applesauce in the jar. He usually gobbles all of it up. I think it ends up being close to 1/3c of cereal per feeding.
I think that you won't be overfeeding Logan, as he probably won't eat more than he's hungry for. But if Sam eats the whole bowl I only top off with more formula, not make another bowl. Sam eats well with BF and formula all day, but we only give him cereal at suppertime.
DD gets 2 Tbsp at noon and 1.5 Tbsp mixed with fruit of veggie around 6 p.m. Sometimes she seems like she could eat more, sometimes she wont finish the serving.
We made 1 tablespoon the first time and he only ate a few bites (totally normal). We moved up to 2 tablespoons fast. It is really up to LO. Just watch him. Try not to worry about specifics, you'll quickly find out it's not important.
We now do 2 tablespoons cereal with a whole pack of stage 2 fruit/veggie. As for how much you add to it...I make a 2oz bottle and I use most of it for 2 tablespoons. For the first time and with 1 tablespoon I think I made a 2oz bottle and used 3/4 of it. You want it to look like applesauce or runnier. DS did better with it thicker so the next time I used less. Just eyeball it.
