So, my mom keeps telling me that I should start getting my nipples ready for BFing. Is this necesary, and if so what is the process? She's talking about twisting and rubbing them to desensitize them, I think... Really?

Re: prepping the nipples?
Nooooo! I did not do anything - and the LC's do not recommend you do anything, this is an OWT. Everyone will have a different experience. I was very lucky that I never had sore nipples other than the first few days.
Just watch the latch in the beginning and use lanolin all the time.
I would imagine that this would only desensitize your nipples to twisting and rubbing! LOL
Seriously though, don't do anything like this. As pp said, just use lanolin in the early days to help your nipples feel better. Once you get past the first difficult week or two, you won't need it anymore.
Nursing a baby neither twists nor rubs your nipples under normal circumstances. So how is beating up on your nips supposed to help?
I agree - OWT, don't do it. Lay in some lanolin and some Sootheez and don't go yanking on your nipples unless you enjoy that kind of thing.
