High-Risk Pregnancy

Polyhydramnios - Anyone have it?

Hi ladies.  I also posted this on 2nd tri as I am not a regular here, but I thought someone may have an idea about this condition.  Are you considered "high risk" because of it?

At our 20w 5d U/S last week I was diagnosed.  I have a follow up doctors appointment tomorrow, but I am curious to see if anyone else here has experienced this.  What did you do?

My doctor said my fluid levels were at 28 when normal is as high as 24.  It seems to be a mild case, but I will have an U/S every 4 weeks to monitor my fluid.

Thanks!

  • I don't have it but am checked for it every week. Its common with women who have GD. Have they done your 1 hr Glucose screening yet? I know its earlier than usual, but maybe its worth asking about.

  • Nope, no GD check yet.  I think that will happen at my appointment the end of Jan.
  • I have it (diagnosed around 29 weeks) , hasn't caused any problems yet other then i am bigger than i was with my last to LO. I do not have GD and all of LO organs seems just fine, we just have extra fluid for some unknown reason. Dr. says it is likely i could go into labor since my amniotic sack is so stretched it possible my water will break sooner, but not until closer to 38 weeks which is full term anyway so nothing to worrying about. hope all goes well, good luck.
  • oh and that since there is more fluid it's still likely that though my lo is head down he could still flip back around and they will just keep checking.
  • I had polyhydramnios with my last pregnancy.  My DS was born in November.  I was not diagnosed until 35 weeks.  I had to go for non-stress tests 2x per week and had biophysical profiles done weekly.  I was checked multiple times for GD but every time it was negative.  They could not find a reason for the extra fluid.  I was told sometimes it just happens.  My baby also flipped into the breech position at about 36 weeks but he did flip back at 38 weeks (thanks to chiropractic adjustments).  I was induced around 39 weeks because of the excessive fluid and because my baby was measuring over 9 pounds.
