Cervical Pressure?

So lately with my Braxton Hicks contractions I have been feeling cervical pressure (that's the best way I know how to describe it). Does anyone know if this is just because the baby is bigger and pressing more on my cervix, or could it be that my cervix is actually starting to ripen?

I am going to bring this up at my appointment this week, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has had this happen and knows what it is.

Re: Cervical Pressure?

  • When I felt something similar (pressure and little shooting pains down there) it turned out to be effacement...I'm completely effaced now but not dilated at all.  Now when I do my Kegels it feels like there's a golf ball up there that I'm squeezing around...hoping this is dilation?

  • I agree w/ pp--it could be causing dilation and/or effacement. I remember starting to feel cervical pressure around then as well. Definitely bring it up to your doctor though. If you've been having lots of cervical pressure, some docs will want to start doing internals sooner.
  • It could mean that you have dropped and the baby is lower causing more pressure on your cervix. I can say with absolute certainty (unfortunately) that cervical pressure does not mean dilation. I have had a lot of pressure over the last few weeks and I am 50% effaced but still totally closed.
