I don't think tick is the right word but anyhoo..
Liam has a terrible habit (for over a year now) of picking around his nails. This ends up with him having these "quiks" or pieces of loose skin around them and they get sore. Or he'll just chew on his fingers. DH made him a little cushion that he can squeeze instead but he only does this for a minute or 2 then gets distracted as kids do, and a few minutes later he's back to his picking!
He has now started in the last few weeks to lick or suck his upper lip and yesterday it was sore.
How can you stop a 2/3 year old from doing these things?
Any advise would be appreciated!
Re: Does your DC have bad habits or "ticks"?
My DD used to have a really bad habit around that age, and I ended up taking her to the pediatrician to see if something was wrong. He told me it was just a phase...that she might have been stressed about something, but more likely it was something that gave her comfort. Anyhow, it bothered the heck out of me, but I just ignored it and eventually she stopped. I don't know if I gave you advice you were looking for, but as they say, "it's just a phase".
Just so you know, a tick is a bug, and a tic is a bad habit. :-)
Lots of toddlers have little repetetive things that they do. It's a comfort thing, and most eventually grow out of them.
Mine's a compulsive finger sucker... his index finger is chapped all the time.
