So at Christmas my MIL gives DH & I a gift and the tag reads to Mayita or Arnoldito...we are latin and have decided that if it's a girl, she will be called Maya...we still havent decided on a boy's name and they know this.
Me being my filterless self that I seem to be lately, told his sister, oh no! make sure you break your mom out of that habit, she cannot give Maya a nickname like Mayita! In spanish Mayita sounds the same as the word "screen", I'm NOT having that! And Arnold happens to be DH's middle name which I happen to really hate! so, that's not working either.
Well, DH said I could have been less abrupt and they are excited about the baby and I should just let it go...I think that's rude that they are nicknaming a kid that's not even here!!! and I felt that they should have consulted me on what I want her/him to be called...
Am I wrong? Am I blowing this out of proportion???
Re: MIL Rant...am I wrong?(NBR)
haha you are totally over reacting and will laugh about this later. DH's little sister (she's 15) gave us all baby presents addressed to "Nikki jr." which of course is SIL's name. It was just cute and funny. I think your in-laws are just excited and you should give them a little slack. They will call the baby by it's name when you pick one.
Also, is it that bad for a grand-parent to have their own nick name for their grandbaby? I would think that was so cute if my daughter had a special connection with any of her grandparents that way.
You're overreacting. Who cares what your ILs call your (unborn) child. Sounds like you're gearing up for a fight over nothing. If this bothers you this much, I shudder to think how you'll react when MIL does something you don't like once the baby is born.
You cannot mandate what other people do...kiddo's going to get nicknames and you can fuss and cry all you want, but it's going to happen. Call your baby whatever you want and move on.
fwiw, Mayita is really a cute nickname, particularly if you're Latina.
