I never get anything from DH's family. Since we've been together, the only gifts I've ever gotten have been purchased by DH and he's gotten a check for them from his mom. Even then, I never get anything from his brothers or aunt (all of whom attend every Christmas get-together). I have the joyous pleasure of watching everyone else (now other wives, as well) open all of their gifts.
I actually cried just now because I forgot about this until I was doing my hair for the party. I've been thinking and thinking why I always hate Christmas so much and now I've remembered. It's just so mean, and I'm really sad.
It's not about gift getting at all. It's about being purposely excluded in front of everyone.

I'm so sorry to hear this. That would be very hurtful. I wonder why they would exclude you like that.
What does DH say about it?
Yep, pretty much. The other wives get gifts and I rarely get anything. I think I'm a nice person. I never say anything mean or rude to anyone in his family. Even when his brother M is being outright rude and callous toward me, I always brush it off until DH and I are home or in the car.
The problem with DH is that he won't say anything about it. He avoids confrontation at all costs. It sucks! I wouldn't even go, but it's Ryder's first Christmas and I'm going to make it wonderful for him.
KC, I love you, and I don't care what excuses your husband has. It is his duty and obligation to stand up for the woman he married. He MUST say something, or tell his family that he won't continue to put you through that.
I've gone to Christmas parties for friend's families and my friend's grandparents buy me something small so that I don't feel left out. You're right, it's not about the gift, it's about the attitude, and IMO, your DH needs to stand up for YOU.
I am very sorry, and I love you *big hugs*
I agree with Isha. I think it's very honourable of you to want to make it an amazing Christmas for your baby, but I wouldn't go through that repeatedly if I were you. This would be the last year- no gift for you= you sit 'em out from here on in.
You're being a WAY better person that I would be!
Isha & McLolly,
You are my heros. :-) I am considering my options of not going from now on. I just don't want Ryder to know something fishy is going on there. He doesn't need to be involved, ya know?
Also, for the record, I got a small box of used hotel toiletries. Hell. Yeah.
