Babies on the Brain

so I wrote my husband a letter.

he was nice as pie when he came home yesterday from being away 4 days, and we only had about 2 hrs before he went to bed (had to work today), so I didn't feel like giving him the letter then, I just told him about it this morning, and that it was on the sideboard in the hall at home. now he's asking what it's about and why I didn't give it to him sooner.

I wrote the letter while he was away - it's about everything I've been feeling lately that I couldn't really say to his face. I didn't want him to take that to work or anything, or get into a big discussion last night... this is going to be interesting.

Re: so I wrote my husband a letter.

  • Ive had to do that before...It actually worked really well.  I knew if I just tried saying those things to him it would have come out as a very heated discussion but the letter got the point across in a very level way.

  • Good luck!  I hope everything goes well for you.  It's good that you took the time while he was away to get some of your feeings down to let him know.

Ditto, letters have helped both of us to be able to say everything we need to without the other blowing up halfway through. I hope it works for you guys too!

  • I like the idea of a letter.  There is only one downside for me.  Its permanent.  You can always look back and reread things and look into them more than maybe you would in a conversation.  I wrote DH a letter once in our relationship when we were still just dating and I wish I hadn't.  I said some things I wish I could erase, which wouldn't have stuck so long if only said and not written.
  • thanks girls, I've always avoided writing letters because I make them huge and go into way too much detail, but I think this is one of those times when it will really help.

backstory is in the everything else blog ? ...

oh and if Victoria of comment history is around, I can't respond to your last comment at work (firewall, lame) but I will when I get home, sorry! I know it's been a couple days.

I've actually said more things I regret during an argument, so I thought it might be easier to write it out instead. I've written letters before where that happened though - that was prior to DH, so hopefully this one will turn out better!
