Feeling helpless and in need of encouragement...q

I posted last night about the possibility of reflux.  Seriously, something has to give.  Whether this is the issue or not it needs to get figured out.  My poor son can't seem to keep anything down.  It occurs more in the evening and at night.  I just went into his room after hearing strange noises and he was laying asleep vomiting.  My poor child was laying in a pool of his own vomit!  Completely asleep and unaware.  When I did wake him up he started screaming because it was everywhere.  In his eyes, his hair, his ear, everywhere.  I just don't know how I am going to make it through the next two weeks while I journal, like the doc wanted me to.  Ugh!

  • Oh dear :(  (((hugs for everyone)))  I hope it gets figured out soon.
  • Oh I'm so sorry for you guys. Can you call your pedi & tell them this? I haven't dealt w/ reflux but it seems common & 2 weeks sounds so long :(.
  • Yeah, I plan on calling tomorrow.  They probably will just brush me off yet again which really pisses me off.  Looks like I might be leaving my job earlier than planned though.

could you maybe get a 2nd opinion, switch pedis? that sounds pretty extreme and i honestly teared up reading this post imagining how scared your LO must have been. i can't imagine how horrible this is for you right now. i'm so sorry and i hope your pedi takes you seriously. if not, then maybe see about switching.

  • Ari threw up in his sleep once right after he was dx'ed. We were on Zantac & it didn't do sh!t.

I really hope you get some answers. If your pedi blows you off, stand up for yourself & tell him/her to figure it out. That's what I had to do - they kept blowing it off as a behavioral issue because he was nursing all the time. You are your baby's best advocate, remember that.

  • When we visited the office yesterday, I went during on call hours.  This was because my normal docs nurse kept brushing me off like it was just a virus, nothing to worry about.  When we saw the doc, it was the on call so not our normal one.  I am hoping when we see the normal pedi we visit he is more helpful than the on call.  The problem is getting past the gate keeper on the phone to get the damn appointment.  I really like our pedi, but if after a phone call (or multiple) and another visit they aren't being much help still, I think we might be looking elsewhere.  I just feel so helpless and keep getting so teary thinking about it because right now, there is nothing I could do.

  • Oh my gosh, poor baby! I really, REALLY like the nurse practitioner at my pediatricians office if you want to drive to the MO side for a second opinion. She's so nice and sympathetic, she hasn't brushed me off. It's not normal for reflux to go undiagnosed for so long...
  • just wanted to say good luck in talking with your pedi tomorrow! and ((hugs)) to you and your LO!

  • This is a new problem?  If so, at 10 months, he probably didn't just develop reflux, right?  It is something else.

Sorry I didn't read your post from last night, so I assume I am missing some info.

  • let us know how calling the pedi goes! Good luck!
