Success after IF

Success w/ TTC with a high FSH?

Hi there,

I am 38 and I just found out that my FSH is high, 18.6 this last time but 9.9 and 12.9  in the past. My DH & I decided against a 2nd IUI and we're taking a break from TTC for a while so we can regroup. I was wondering if anyone has experienced success with a high FSH -- if so -- I would love to hear your story.

Thank you!

  • I had/have high fsh (16.something.) check out my "bfp secret recipe" on my blog (right hand side) to see how I addressed it. I suggest reading taking charge of your fertility and iconceivable.

  • My FSH was 13 when I got pregnant.  My second IUI worked.  My FSH is now almost 23 and I'm going to be trying for #2!  My RE OKd me to do IUI again and I'm hoping we get lucky.  It's still possible with high FSH!  Good luck!

  • First, let me just say DO NOT stop believing you will get pg someday. No matter what anyone tells you. If I did that I would have given up a long time ago. Second just be as aggressive and assertive as you can. What I mean is don't just accept what one Dr says. Read everything you can, talk to as many people as you can, and just educate yourself as much as you can. Having high FSH does not mean you will never get pg. It just means it may take some time.

I myself was diagnosed with high FSH (12.1) 4 yrs ago. I was 32. Then 6 months later my FSH went to 21. That sucked because that number stuck with me for all these years as most ppl say your only as good as your highest #. Which is BS. My first RE was okay but he was laxed. We did 2 clomid IUI's and got BFN's both times. Plus I mc in between. So he just wanted to wait till my FSH lowered before we moved on to IVF. When he cancelled my cycle after the 21. I lost it and went to a more aggressive RE. He was good. He was concerned about the FSH but said we can try a Injectabiles IUI cycle. BFN. And then I mc the following month. Then he sat DH and I down and said I have less than a 1% chance of conceiving on my own and I should move onto donor eggs. Then he said he would never try IVF because it would be a waste since I didn't really respond well to the drugs. So DH and I took a break. During the break I got so sad and mad that I finally just said you know what I am done playing around with these RE's so I researched all the top fertility clinics in the US that would take high FSH patients and ended up going to Cornell. Now I did two IVF cycle's there and both were BFN's, but it was a totally different expierance. My RE was convinced I would get pg but it would take some time and adjusting of the meds. He then suggested we do a third cycle. So DH and I took a break to recoup our minds and our $$$. During that time I bought a Clear Blue Easy Fertility monitor and started using it. Ironically I got pg on the 2nd cycle. Granted I couldn't believe it was real until like week 16 but here I sit today, 36 yrs old with a beautiful baby boy. So now when people ask if I believe in Miracles I show them my DS and say YES.

Sorry for the long story but I just want you to see that no matter what anyone tells you, you will not feel this way forever. Maybe not tomorrow, next week or next month, but if you believe and never give up, you will have a LO one day.

If you ever want to chat just PM me. I know its hard and if it wasn't for so many of these women I am not sure I would have made it.

    GL!

  • Thank you all so much for sharing your stories - they are truly inspiring. I will stay hopeful and positive. At least I have an answer as to why we are not getting pregnant. I ordered some books and I'm starting acupuncture after the new year. I really think that stress is playing a huge role with this. I noticed that after our first round of injectables my FSH was the highest (18.6). I was so emotional and stressed because I am so afraid of needles, it was so hard for me to get through it all. That's why we decided not to do it this month.

Thank you again. It's so nice to have support! KD288 -- I might take you up on your PM offer -- that's so sweet of you.

    Happy holidays!
