anyone have a frame backpack?

they can recommend? I am looking at the Chicco because it is cheaper than the Kelty. We just need something for short day hikes and festivals etc this summer. DS is already 18 lbs so I need something with a frame that will be comfortable to carry him around in as he gets even heavier. TIA!

  • We have an Ergo (not full frame) for around the town stuff and a Kelty for hiking. I'd highly recommend Kelty - Alex LOVES it and it's comfortable to wear...good distribution of weight on hips and shoulders if you get it fitted right. Whatever you end up getting, I'd go to a place like REI to have someone help you fit it property (unless you are an experienced back-packer)...they'll help you adjust the straps/settings to distribute weight most evenly, etc.

just butting in to say I love your pics and your siggy!

  • We also have the Kelty.  You can find it on sale some places for not that much more than the Chicco.  I'd recommend spending the $$.  We love ours and when we went to Yellowstone, everyone I saw was also using the kelty.

  • We use a Deuter Kangakid and it is amazing! What I like is that it has an internal frame, so that when LO is not in it, you zip up the carrier part and it looks like, and can be used like, a regular backpack. It doubles as diaper bag/carrier. It's also super light and way comfortable. You can try it out at REI. I highly recommend it!
