We're driving down with our cat to NC tomorrow. It should take 5.5 hours but given the weather situation I suspect it'll take longer. Can he go without food for that long (plus a bit so he won't need to go to the bathroom while in the car)? He probably needs water...how do you do this?

Re: Traveling with cat
He will be fine without food. I feed my cat twice a day once at 5 AM and once at 8 PM. And she is fine.
You might offer him water half way when you stop, but the cat most likely won't drink anything anyways. My cat refuses to eat or drink when she is stressed. It won't hurt him. Just make sure he has water when you get where you are going.
I've done the drive from Atlanta to Texas (and the reverse) twice with my cats. I offered them food and water in their crates, but neither of them really wanted it. Clover pooped in her crate once, but I just shook out the towel into the trash when we stopped.
My doc said we could give the cats Children's Benadryl to help with the car ride, but they REALLY didn't like it and I don't think they actually swallowed any. I don't remember the dosage.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
I bought a water bottle from petsmart that had this flip out bowl thing attached. I think I have seen them at target too.

my currently-reading shelf:
Your cat should be fine. If you make a stop see if your cat will drink, but most likely they won't eat or drink on the road.
Good luck!
