So I've heard of babies who are EBF refuse formula whenever it's time to make the switch. I've been thinking about this a lot. I don't really want her to have formula til I wean her from the breast but what if she doesn't take formula. Should I let her have a bottle of formula every once in a while just so she gets used to it?
Sorry if this is a silly question I just plan on BF til maybe 6 months I'm not for sure and I don't want her to starve when we get to that point!
Re: Formula question from a EBF
If you decided to make the switch to formula, you can do it gradually. Mix some formula in with bm. So say your LO takes a 6 ounce bottle. Make 2oz of formula and 4oz bm. After a few days make the bottle half bm and half formula. Keep increasing the amount of formula until the bottle is all formula and no bm.
There is no reason to occasionally give a bottle of formula. And she won't starve when you start her on formula. If she has a true aversion to a particular formula, you can try another one. A baby is not going to starve them self. They may skip a feeding or two, but they will eat.
I was afraid of this too, so I started giving DD a formula bottle before bed and now sometimes during the day so I can have a break, but she seems to love it.
I use similac early shield.
