I may sound really stupid in this post, but this whole thing is so new to me.
ILs got me a portable hard drive for Christmas. My computer crashed recently, and I almost lost all of my pictures and I did lose all of my music. So now I have this cute little hard drive, it's the WD Elements Portable Hard Drive. It was a cheaper one, but I don't need anything heavy duty.
It came with a trial of Memeo for back up. Now, do I need back up software? Can I do it manually? Is that too much work?
Is there back up software that I can get for free that will work well?
Seriously... so confused and I hope there's a nerd out there who can help me.
Re: I need help from computer nerds!
This is what I would like to do. I just didn't know if I could do that. Like I said... I'm very new to tis.
No screens popped up when I plugged it in. When I put the installation CD in, it only installed the trial version of Memeo.
I have Windows XP, and the computer itself is not so good.
Just do it manually. Memeo or whatever is a waste. My WD mybook came with that too.
All you have to do is right click the folders you need to backup, hit copy, and paste them into the folder of the EHD
Thank you! I didn't want to have a program on my computer that was expensive and hard to figure out. I would much rather just copy and paste.
Second question, if you're still reading...
Do you think it's okay to delete the files off of my computer once they're on the external? My computer has very limited internal hard drive space. I plan to usually keep the ehd plugged in at all times. Or is that too risky?
