Have you had CD3 and CD21 blood work?

On CD3, my Dr. tested all of the usual CD 3 labs, but also ran prolactin, which was slightly elevated. On CD 21 she retested prolactin and tested progesterone. The prolactin was the exact same, and the progesterone was only 5. We were testing to look for ovulation because I'm not having ANY signs of ovulation (no EWCM, no + opk, etc), and I've had a lot of irregular bleeding, This month my period is late and all I'm having is brown spotting, but my hpt is negative too. It seems to me that I'm most likely not ovulating, and she agrees, but also thought maybe a uterine lining biopsy may be needed because of the bleeding (I'm usually having a period starting every 2 weeks, one is regular and other is not quite a full period but is more than just spotting and lasts for 3-4 days like my regular "official" one does. if that makes sense). She'll be contacting me on Monday to figure out what to do next.

My question: if you don't ovulate or have PCOS (my u/s showed lots of little cysts all over the ovaries), what was your progesterone and prolactin levels? How are you proceeding?

Re: Have you had CD3 and CD21 blood work?

  • The CD21 b/w really needs to be done at 7DPO.  If you were just a few days past ovulation, it might have been low, or if you were more and close to AF, that could make it low too.

I THOUGHT levels above 5 indicated ovulation, but I can't remember.  Have you charted or been monitored at all to see if you're ovulating?

I have polycystic ovaries, but I DO NOT have PCOS.  Did they check your testosterone levels.

  • I have been charting for a year and have no signs of ovulation. I do have a period every 28 days like clockwork, as my "regular period". Almost exactly 2 weeks from the start of that, I have another bleeding period of 3-4 days, much more than spotting but not as heavy as the bleeding 2 weeks prior. Then, 2 weeks later it all starts over with my heavy "regular" period. She used the CD 21 blood work to see if there was an increase in the progesterone and she thinks that it was too low to indicate ovulation. But, I am not sure whether that is too low or not.
