people are ignoring my registry!

Is anyone having the problem of people not buying things on their registry and going somewhere else and just guessing what you need?  I keep finding out that more and more people just bought something from somewhere else because they did not feel like going to BRU and dealing with the registry?

Re: people are ignoring my registry!

  • DH's family ignores the registry (for our wedding and now baby.) I'm grateful they are getting us gifts but it is frustrating to get something you don't need when there are all kinds of things you do need. Plus some of the stuff just isn't my taste and now sits hidden away in a closet.

  • I got 8 things off of my registry. Even my mother in law bought me some ugly stuff that WAS NOT on my registry. I have to go out this weekend and sort it all out... prepare yourself lol
  • Yes, it's really annoying and some people just think they know better than you what you want/need.  Just hope for gift receits!

  • I registered for Amazon.com (We figured this would be easiest for our family that lives out of state) and Babies R Us and we got only 1 item bought from both of our registries.  I can't explain why this happens, I only can guess that people either think they know better, or are to lazy to bother with the registry.

  • I got the majority of things off my registry - but sometimes people went somewhere else to buy them (they must have printed my registry from online and gone to the store of their choice) - so I couldn't tell the item had been bought. I did have some things that I didn't want (diaper genie & wipe warmer - only one of which has a gift receipt to return), but most of the off-registry items I ended up loving!

Just wait till your shower and see what actually comes... you never know!

Yea, I dont mean to sound bitchy. I am grateful for the gifts. part of it is because i know how lazy my family is.

  • Guess what - your registry is not a "to do" list for people - it's a SUGGESTION. Don't be a brat about your reg - be thankful people are buying you anything at all. And so what if you get 47 things you hate and don't need - ebay them and get over it.

Not so much. I just think it's HIGH-larious when people biitch about registries.

  • I know the feeling - we didn't get one single thing from our registry.
  • Yes... very few people bought from our registry. In some cases we got things that were things we registered for, but from other stores. It mainly made me nervous about getting duplicates... I just had to stalk my registry often and keep it updated.

I am sure you were just as particular about your registry but oh how quickly we forget!

Its frustrating when you put a ton of time and effort in to making this list of things you NEED and no one follows it or buys off of it. I got no gift receipts and work far too much to have time to "ebay it"

Sorry, but I agree with Shween on this one. We had ONE person buy from our registry and they were the ONLY person that gave us a gift receipt. You just go from store to store and try and return what you can. Lazy or not, they are buying you a gift so suck it up.

Well, it's frustrating when there are things you NEED and people blatantly ignore it and purchase 50 blankets.  There's a REASON why people do registries...for things they NEED.

Actually I didn't have a baby or wedding registry. I find them tacky.

Yeah, but if i would have known this i would have saved my self the trouble of being in BRU for three or four hours picking out the stuff i needed,  live and learn, i guess. a registry is pointless. You know what is funny? everyone kept complaining and telling me i need to go set up my registry.lol

And there's usually a REASON why people don't buy off registries. It's a guideline, not a stipulation. Just because you register at BRU like everyone else, doesn't mean people buying for you MUST go there to buy you something - or buy you anything at all, for that matter.

  • My aunt keeps going off the reservation and calling me and saying" Honey, do you need this? What do you think of this?" and pushing *** on me. I keep having to direct her back to our registry.

ya i'm with shween i look at people registry and usually get something that was on it or looks like it but at a different store it is NOT a "to do " list.. just be grateful people are buying your things so you don't have to buy everything..

  • Your NEEDS are not the reason they are giving you gifts. They are giving you gifts to show love and affection for the child. If people were interested in what you NEED they would look at your registry. Perhaps they want to get you something they want to get you or your child...

They are gifts, if you don't like them don't use them but don't complain about gifts. It makes you sound like a brat.

    Indifferent

  • Oh man, I love 3rd tri.

    1. They are giving you a gift. If the blanket or outfit isn't your taste... well, that's a bummer. But it is still a kind gesture.

    2. If you NEED things, buy them.  It's not up to your family and friends to provide everything you NEED for a baby. You should anticipate all the things you NEEEEED and budget for them. If they're gifted to you, then that icing on the cake.

You sound like a whiny five year old who didn't get the toy she wanted from Santa.

  • Mysterious mama does not play! lol!
  • Thats great that you spent 3-4 hours making sure you registered for everything you "need". When you don't get those things at your shower you can than go back to BRU & pick them up for yourself. THe trouble of figuring out what you need is done. You'll just need to finalize your purchases. Not to mention BRU offers a completion coupon after the baby is born to use towards items NOT bought from your registry.

Seriously though. The register is for suggestions to people wanting to give you gifts. It is not required for them to buy you exactly what is on it. So you do sound like a brat when you complain about it. You chose to have a baby so it is your responsibility to provide for it not the people who want to buy you gifts.

The people might also know what you do need vs what you think you need. They might have a child already & get you something that they found to be helpful. Just try to be grateful & stop complaining.

...and because it is your job to provide what the baby needs, not family and friends.

  • PS- Next time just send postcards announcing your pregnancy and write "Make checks payable to:" on the back. It's so much easier than forcing people to crochet you an ugly blanket or spend time in a store looking for something they think you might enjoy.

    Fantastic idea!

  • We didn't receive a lot from our registry.  It's more realistic to register with the idea of doing it for the coupon at the end and if you receive items from it for your shower that's great.

You may get a lot of duplicate items or stuff you don't think you'll need, but you'll be surprised.  We thought we would never use all the bibs we got, but we definitely did and have had to buy more.

  • more people buy what they have fun buying and think is cute. while it is frustrating it is not necessary for anyone to buy us anything and you just have to remind yourself of that and be thankful for anything you do get.
  • Some people like myself are not getting a shower so I know it's crazy but I guess I will have to buy all my babies need by myself. At this point I would very grateful for a bag of diapers or an ugly outfit.

Just because people know of or see your registry it doesn't mean they have to buy from it. Many of the basic NEEDS can be bought at a lot of stores...they may for many reasons buy from another store.
