Ok, I never thought I'd ever write a big baby post. But here I am, over 40 weeks, with zero progress. The doctor sent me for an ultrasound because she's concerned that baby is not engaging in my pelvis because he/she is too big. Turns out baby is around 8lbs 14oz, give or take.
I'm so bummed. I had envisioned a hard, but rewarding natural labor. Now, we're talking about inductions or a planned c-section, if baby doesn't wiggle it's way down in the next week. I cried for about 2 hours yesterday, because this is just not what I imagined. Our parents flew in for the event and now it looks like they're all going to miss the birth because they're headed home in the next week. I'm just so bummed.
Please send labor dust or some pelvis enlarging powder my way.
Re: Big baby, no progress...boohoo
I have a question, because I'm pretty new at this baby thing...what is considered a "big" baby? I never imagined that under 9 lbs. was considered big.
I have read varying info on if the size of the parents at birth affect their child's size. My husband was about 10.5 lbs and born naturally. This scares the heck out of me because it seems extra painful, but a C-section scares me more for some reason. Like you, I was envisioning a hard but rewarding labor.
I hope you get what you want!
Oh no. I'm sorry. I go in today and I am dreading those "no progress" words.
Why is your doctor waiting another week? Isn't that Christmas? My hospital will not take scheduled C-sections/inductions until the Monday after.
If it were me, I would request an induction early/mid next week. This certainly puts you at more of a risk for a c-section, but it sounds like you are likely to go down that road anyways if your LO is big.
I'm in exactly the same boat.... ultrasound said prob. 9lbs. But all three drs and the midwife at my practice do not think so. They said prob 8lbs maybe 8 and 1/2.
I have no progress either except her head is in position and they think my pelvis can do it.
I'm hoping this weekend or else I go back for another ultrasound/dr appt on Monday. After that I guess we're inducing.
