fasting blood sugar?

Today I have to take a fasting blood sugar test. I'm wondering what will happen if the results come back high.

I already took the 1 hr gloucose test (twice actually- once early on b/c I was having possible symptoms and again when it was the typical time in pregnancy to do so). I passed both times.

So if I "fail" this test today what could it lead to? 1 hour test? 3 hour test? Consideration of an induction? Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: fasting blood sugar?

  • Your best bet is to ask this question on the High-risk board. I was diagnosed with GD 4 weeks ago and the board has been extremely helpful. I am not sure what will be your next step, it may be the 3 hour test. I failed both and was put on a GD diet, mine seems to be a mild case, it is completely diet controlled. But it does not necessarily mean an induction, with controlled blood sugars and keeping an eye on the size of your LO, you can still carry to full term and deliver naturally. But I would check the high-risk board, they are very knowledgeable.

  • I don't know - but I passed the 1 hour and still had to do a fasting and passed that too. I'm guessing you'll pass but at 38 weeks I'm not sure what they would actually do if you didn't.
