NBR: I hate deadbeat losers (long drama)

In October of 2008 (yes, 2008, not 2009) I loaned my friend Jack $200 because he shattered his heal and couldn't work so he was having a hard time. I told him to just pay me back whenever he had the money again.

Fast forward to July 2009... I started asking for it. He said he was broke. September... same story. October... same story. November came around and I got bitchy. Pay me back when you have it means don't wait an entire year you a*shole! So I told him I'd take him to court (he's stupid and I made up a bunch of crap that sounded legit so it scared him... who would go to court over $200? Proof he's a dumba*s lol). So he said he'll send me what he can. So last week I got a money order. For $10. LMAO!! Well, gee, thanks for the effort.

Now, I know he doesn't have a crapload of money, but over the summer he was arrested for DUI. He's not the smartest when making decisions. So there were more fines and my chances of getting my money got slimmer. So on Facebook yesterday I saw that he was going to NYC with his girlfriend. OH REALLY????? And this morning I noticed he unfriended me. I was expecting that like 3 months ago. So I sent him a text: "It's very interesting that you can't pay me back because you're soooo broke, yet you're going to NYC... yeah I saw that before you deleted me."

I'm going to send him extremely bitchy texts about every 2 hours and I'm going to ruin his trip by making him worry I'm taking him to court. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

GIVE ME MY $190 B!TCH!!

Lesson: Never loan friends money. Unless it's like $20 because who cares about $20?

Re: NBR: I hate deadbeat losers (long drama)

  • Um, yeah, I'd be ticked off too.  Sounds like y'all won't be friends any longer.  I'd start asking his girlfriend for the money!
  • Loading the player...
  • I would take him to court at this point. If he doesnt have the money and you know he wants and tries to pay you back, that's one thing, but going to NYC when he owes you money is just being a douche. I say it's court time. But that's JMO.
  • Yeah...we learned that lesson the hard way too.

When we moved out of our previous home, (it was our churches property), some of our friends moved in.  They had asked to buy our couch, and we agreed.  This will be 3 years ago in March, and they still owe us around $400.

So.....never mix friends and money, you'll lose one or the other.

  • Ugh that sucks but at this point I'd let it go and move on. Take it as a lesson learned.

ETA: Who's to say he's even paying for the trip? Maybe she's his suga momma. LOL

  • This is why I don't loan money to friends. I went through the same thing with two other friends. One friend it was only $40 and we still are friends but the other friend was $900 and we don't talk anymore, I don't even know where she is.

  • Take him on Judge Judy!

If you are going to take him to court, don't send too many text messages though.  He could file a counterclaim for harassment.  If you end up with some wacko judge, they might agree with him.  It happens.

  • a friend of ours  gave these 2 dead beat friends we "used to have" like $300. they said they would pay her back for the longest time..then asked for another $200. My friend thinking of their 2 kids gave it to them...to this day shes never been paid back! but they have money to go out and get *** faced drunk every weeekend...and there may not be food in the house.,..but You bet your ass theres always beer in the fridge...shes thought about taking them to court just to prove a point...they sponge money off of everyone!

  • I loaned my sister and BIL $740 last year so they could move into a new apartment complex that was a lot cheaper and way nicer than the place they were living in. They couldn't come up with the security deposit so I said I'd loan them it and they could pay me back in increments. They planned on giving me back in full when they got their tax return or whatever it was. I didn't get it in full.. instead they paid me 540, which was fine I was happy to be getting more than half back. The thing that p!ssed me off was they spent that other $200 they owe me on video games and stupid stuff. Over a year and divorce later I still have yet to see a penny of it. I know my sister will pay me back, but it will be years before that because my mom said that collection agencies have been calling her for money. Ugh.. never loaning money to her again. Especially when I could be using that money to pay my rent.

Edit: I would never have thought about giving them that much money if they didn't have a one year old to take care of. I just felt bad for my nephew and the dump they were living in.

  • Yeah you'll never see that $190.  Agree with pp's sentiments about lending money to friends.  Or family for that matter.

  • A lesson we learned the hard way. Friends and money don't mix
  • I feel your pain!!

Yes - the rule should apply to family and friends!!

We learned our lesson when we loaned my BIL $2500 las year around this time.  We told him we needed it back by April, as it was our tax money - he paid us $1000 about 4 months late and we are still waiting for the $1500.....it has been over a year!! and he has gone on vacation within that time too!! We are pissed because he never calls us to even tell us that he is working on it or anything....We better get the money from his tax refund this year!!  So lesson learned...no money over $20 to family OR friends!

  • Yeah, my old roommate from college still owes me 500.  I will never see that $.

  • I know it stinks, but legally, because you said he can pay you back "when he has it," if he says he doesn't have it then you're sort of out of luck. And, maybe his gf is paying for the trip. But, even if he only paid $5 a month, he should do so!
  • I had a friend take her very recent ex-best friend to court for $136
