My DH is having his promotion cermony/party this coming Wednesday. He's being promoted to Captain, which is a pretty big one. Anyways, I've asked him a million times if I'm traditionally supposed to get him anything like those challenge coins or anything like that because I know I'll be the one there pinning on his rank. I'm just curious...should I get him a gift? If so, what do I get him? We weren't married at his commissioning, but I was there and he didn't do anything for when he was promoted to 1LT, so I'm not sure how this all works. TIA!
Re: NBR: military mommas
Hmm I have no idea. It might be different between Army and Air Force too. DH is getting promoted to 1LT tomorrow (in Iraq) but its just a promotion ceremony (except that he's getting promoted by the Secretary of the Army!!! WOOT!). Do you have other AF wife friends you could ask? That is what I would probably do. Maybe a wife of someone who is already a capt?
PS Sorry for my little AW in your post
Lol, its ok. Actually army and airforce are the most similar...they have the same rank structure I think. I really don't have anyone I can ask real quick...I'm a lot younger than the other wives lol. I would assume DH would tell me if I'm supposed to do something, I'm just afraid he doesn't want me to spend the money or something. Oh well, congrats to your DH tho! 2LT to 1LT is a nice pay raise! lol
HM, I think its a personal decision. My husband and I arent really into gifts. We would rather spend our money on a nice dinner out together or something like that. Maybe you should just take him to dinner.
I have never bought my husband a present for any of his promotions (army).
Sorry I couldn't be of more help...and Congrats to your hubby next week!! Great Xmas gift :-)
Well at all of the promotions I've been to the DH usually gives the wife flowers and the wife gives the DH a kiss. lol
Congrats on your DH making Capt! Woot Woot
You could get your DH something if you wanted to although I have no idea what it would be. If you get him anything, just go with something that is important to you.
ETA: I meant there is nothing that you have to give him other than a kiss. lol I'll ask tomorrow at work to be sure though.
ha flowers....i doubt he's aware or willing to take part in that tradition lol
When you get home give him a good blow job or something! j/k I personally have never given my husband anything for his promotions either! Usually chiefs and commanders give the coins out to the person getting promoted and the wife may get a bouquet of flowers.
Also, you can throw your DH a promotion party where people come and celebrate with you both on his promotion.
Just asked my hubby (army) and he isn't aware of anything specific..He mentioned that some units may have special/specific traditions though.
Promotions for him though consist of ripping off the velcro rank on the center of chest and then slapping the new one on with a little force (good-naturedly) by the higher-up.
