My mother is tiny 5'2" and about 95 lbs and SWEARS that she didn't need maternity clothes until 6 months. (There may be some memory fading here....it's been over 35 years.)I'm 5'6" and was about 117 to start. I've gained 7.5 lbs at 17 weeks, my belly is low and hard and yes, sticking out. I'm just a bit confused because I see all of these pics posted and everyone looks like they are pregnant! It just looks like I have a big lower gut or a B belly (maybe because I'm eating non-stop). I'm still wearing my same jeans. My work pants are a bit tight. I'm still running in my normal workout clothes. I've stopped wearing some tops because the biggest thing about me are the girls. With most clothes, you can't tell anything at all.Anyone in a similar situation who can share when everything popped? Or when you needed maternity clothes? I haven't bought any yet. We are seeing our new NMW practice on Monday and I'm hoping she says everything looks fine.
Re: When did you show / need maternity clothes?
I started to wear loose fitting clothes @16wks. I started to really show @22wks or so. You will know for yourself as the wks go by whether or not you need to buy maternity clothes as your waist starts to expand. We are all proportioned differently so some women may looks smaller than others.
I think you are just one of the lucky ones, or it may be because it is your first. I remember with my first that I did not need to wear maternity clothes until I was about 5 1/2 - 6 months. I actually have a picture of me when I was about 5 months wearing a maternity top and I was swimming in it, but I wanted to wear them so bad!
This go round, I am at just 9 weeks and have several pants that are too tight...I have not started wearing maternity yet, but I be within the next month I will need to wear them. Thank god for yoga pants!!
I think I was about 5 months or so with my first, and at that point I still had some of my baggier/stretchier non maternity clothes that still worked, too, but not for much longer.
I am now nearly 17 weeks (so 4ish months) with my second and I am about to pop any minute now. The belly is already rounding, and I fully expect it to go KABOOM any morning. I am just toward the end of that stage where I just look like I am gaining weight and will soon look unmistakably pregnant.
I tend to wear a lot of yoga pants and loose shirts anyway, so I am still in between somewhat. If I wore primarily button-and-zipper pants, though - no way would I be even close to fitting them these days. I have noticed many of my shirts starting to get tighter around the belly and hips, so it looks like I will be making the switch to exclusively wearing maternity pretty soon.
What your mother said about her experience COULD be correct because everyone carries differently, but more importantly the clothing styles when she was pregnant could have been different, too. Maybe they used more elastic waists and polyester/stretch fabrics then, making her more able to get away with it. Who knows
