DH Smokes - How much does this affect infertility?

Hi Ladies,

My husband and I are on our 4th cycle of TTC...we are trying everything we can to boost fertility (eating healthy, less caffeine, etc)...the only thing is...he smokes and is not ready to quit although he knows he should but of course it is easier said than done...he does say he plans to quit when he finds out I'm pregnant...which I believe...but until then.....my question is...

...does anyone have a DH that smokes and were you still able to get pregnant easily? Or are the statistics correct in saying that it really causes infertility?

This board is for women who have actual, diagnosed fertility issues. This isn't the best place to vent about trying for only 4 cycles as some women here have been trying for YEARS. Please be sensitive to that.

With that being said, I would be pissed if my DH smoked while we were TTC. I never had to worry about that b/c he has never smoked but, it would bother me if he did.

according to everything I have read, nicotine adversely effects fertility in both men and women.

Smoking is a big factor in infertility. Four months isnt considered long as far as trying to get pregnant, but now my be the time to start quitting. GL

If you are looking for stories of couples who got pregnant easily despite smoking, this is the wrong board.

Nobody here is getting or got pregnant "easily".

Shiit, I don't even post on the IF boards and I've been trying for a year with a dx fertility issue. I don't think I've been trying long enough or my road has been hard enough to warrant me complaining to these wonderful women.

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to apologize, I am new to thebump.com and did not realize what rooms to post in...I was just looking for advice and if I need to go on google for example I will do so...I just thought I could ask anyone with experience in at least trying to conceive and I posted on the wrong boards...I have many people angry with me now and did not mean any harm...I give you all credit for trying so long...I suppose I am just anxious in general about never being able to get pregnant just like everyone else...did not mean any harm..please understand..thank you much

there's a great book called "before your pregnancy" that discusses this sort of thing--i would recommend reading that, i think it would have the statistics you're looking for. good luck!

Also, smoking is a complete waste of a perfectly good set of lungs. Be ##$%&ing thankful that you don't have lung problems, yet.

Due to his CF, my DH busts his tail every single $%&%ing day (we're talking 3+ hours of medical treatment) to keep his lungs in the best shape possible. He just got finished with a MONTH of IV antibiotics at home. We have to do IVF to get PG.
