3rd Trimester

Anyone still changing kitty litter?

My DH has been working nonstop between work and getting our house move-in ready. He's taken over kitty litter duties since we found out I'm pregnant, but I changed it today since he's so busy. No big deal, right?

My mom freaked out! My mom was acting like I commited a mortal sin. I'm pretty sure one time of changing the litter will be fine.

Weirdo confession: I like changing the litter. EmbarrassedOur cat is always so happy after (she watches us while we do it) and it makes me feel like a good pet-mom.

  • I never stopped changing it, but then again I also work in a vet clinic so it's not like I can avoid it either.

  • I think once is fine.  Really unless your cat is an outdoor cat which eats birds all the time, then you picked up it's poop with your bare hands then licked your hand, you probably will be just fine!

I haven't touched the litter since getting my BFP, I've always hated changing the litter and have used the pregnancy excuse to the fullest of my ability! Smile

  • Our cat is indoor only, so I'm really not too worried about it.

  • I changed it all thru my pg with DD and this time too...but then if I don't do it no one will b/c DH is deployed.
  • I changed it with a mask and gloves for the first few weeks until my OB told me to have DH do it. I am actually looking forward to doing it myself again. It takes far less effort than having to remind DH about it every.single.day.

  • I've cleaned it the entire time.  I just make sure to wash my hands after and my cats are indoors only.

  • Just wash your hands afterwords and you'll be fine. It amazes me that people think kitty litter is the only place you can contract toxoplasmosis.
  • Same thing here.  My husband is working 2 jobs and we're moving so the landlord wanted to show our apartment today.  Well the litter needed to be scooped so i did it and my husband freaked out, but i'm not too worried bc both cats are indoor and I've been tested for the toxoplasmosis and it came back neg and the doc said that i'd be fine as long as the cats remained indoor.

Dh is constantly forgetting and the box is in our spare bathroom that dd uses and i tried to explain to him i hate sitting there potty training looking (
and smelling) a full box..she is potty trained now but still who wants to smell it..so i will change it..all three of our cats are outside cats so i am not too worried about it

  • I've had to do a few times but when someone is here I do ask them to do it for me.
  • I've done it my whole pregnancy.  It's not worth the aggravation of reminding DH to do it when I can easily just do it myself and know it gets done right.  We clean out the litter box every other day anyway and I wash my hands right after.  My cat is an indoor cat and she is very neat and clean, so I am not worried about it.
  • My hubby has been changing it ever since I found out we were preggers....and I also told him he has to change it still if im bfing! hahahaha but im sure he doesnt believe me! It was worth a try. I too work with animals I am a dog groomer but I do not groom cats so I'm good. Just becareful while changing it!
  • I changed the litter throughout my entire pregnancy--just wear gloves and wash your hands and you'll be fine! The risk of toxoplasmosis is so miniscule--you're far more likely to get it from unwashed fruits/veggies or undercooked meat than from your cat's poo.
