3rd Trimester

So I've been drinking/eating pineapple

I am sitting here right now at my desk drinking pineapple juice and got severe cramping, as if I had to go to the bathroom really bad. Belly pains and lower back/hips pains.

I haven't gotten anything that lasts or can be timed though. And all week I have been getting lots of gas pains, and half that time it means I do REALLY need to go, and the other half it is just the pains and a teeny bit of gas.

Seriously... wtf.... hahaha I can't wait for my appointment tomorrow so I can ask about my 2 weeks of crazy bowel troubles.

Re: So I've been drinking/eating pineapple

  • I have my appt on Friday and I'm hoping its my last before I see my doc in the hospital.  Yesterday I went walking at the mall and today I am trying to get into nesting mode by cleaning the house...floors and all.  Might even order some spicy pizza for dinner tonight.  I want this baby OUT!!!!

OK Back to work on cleaning.

  • So did you start the pineapple thing at 36 weeks? I've been wondering when we can start trying to coax LO out. I was in the hospital for "irritability" at 33 weeks 5 days. The nurse said that sex could cause that. So the doctor told us no sex until 36 weeks. Does that mean that its okay to try other stuff, too?

  • My MW had never even heard of pineapple to induce labor.  The MWs suggested I start eating fresh pineapple because it can help increase platelets and mine are a tad low.  I asked if it was ok because of what I've heard on here about it and they didn't know anything about it.
  • Pineapple is *supposed* to help with softening of the cervix and dilation. Something about some sort of enzyme in the pineapple. It isn't supposed to cause contractions. But I suppose if you are eating that much of it as well as drinking pineapple juice it will give you a bowel issue!

Just what I've read. Good luck!

This. Pineapple may help soften your cervix but isn't a means to induce labor. I agree it could just be all that fruit causing your bowel troubles (plus perhaps the baby dropping and causing increased/different pressure on your bowels).?

    ?

I didn't start eating the fruit until yesterday and have had the bowel problem for 2 weeks now. So maybe it isn't helping the problem, but it wasn't the start of the problem

    ?

I am just hoping that it helps things along when she is ready, as in, I'm not sitting around at 3 cen. waiting waiting waiting?
