Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Repost from 0-3: LO only slept in 45min increments all night! Help!

DS has always been a really good night sleeper.  He's 11 weeks old, and we have NEVER had a night like last night (even when we just brought him home from the hospital).  Beside the first few hours after he went down (so from 8-12ish), he slept normally.  Then the rest of the night he would wake up every 45 minutes for his paci.  He didn't cry all of those times - sometimes, he would just wake up and talk, but as soon as we would give him the paci he would fall right back to sleep for another 45 minutes.  A couple of times he did break our of his swaddle me, and woke himself up that way.  And the night before he did the same thing from 5am until he really woke up at 8am.  I don't think he's hungry.  When we would try to feed him at some of those times he woke, he would only eat, like, half of a normal bottle.  Only once did he eat the whole thing (at the regular time he would normally wake up).  He's never been dependent on his paci, either.  Usually he uses it to go down initially, and then once it falls out he doesn't wake up.  Has anyone else gone through this? What happened to my good sleeper!?!

  • growth spurt. It will go away, and come back time and time again...sorry to say.

  • Sounds like he is gearing up for the 3 month growth spurt.
  • DD had one random night like that when she turned exactly three months. She normally would sleep from 7:30- 4am and then eat and go back to bed til 7am. That one night she was up once an hour. After that night, she went back to only getting up once a night, but she now gets up around 2 for the bottle instead. I attribute it to a growth spurt. There is a 3 mo spurt, maybe you are hitting it a little early.
  • hmmm not sure why your DS is doing it but I had to train myself to not pick up DD just bc she was awake.  I now let her lay in her crib and babble until she tires herself out and falls back to sleep.  If LO is content and not crying or hungry I would just let him be and see if he falls asleep on his own.  .
  • Sometimes you just have those kind of nights!  We had one last night and DD is almost 6 months!

  • growth spurt, and also sometimes when babies STTN earlier, when they start becoming more aware of their worlds they start to wake up again at night.  It should pass....just keep doing what your doing.

  • My good sleeper started this 2 weeks ago as well.  He always slept from 630-430 and then back until 7am.  I'm going to Pedi tomorrow for shots and I'm going to ask her what she thinks.  I think he may be teething and going through growth spurt.  Hope it was a one night fluke for you.
