Is cashmere appropriate for longies?

I made some longies from a cashmere sweater, but I don't think it's working well.  I lanolized it with Lasinoh, but it still feels wet over a prefold.  It's also huge on my 4 week old son.  Does wool need a snug fit to work?

Re: Is cashmere appropriate for longies?

  • i made cashmere longies from a sweater and they work great.  is it 100% cashmere?  i've noticed cashmere tends to be thinner so that might be part of the problem.  i use it in summer without clothes over it.

  • It should work as long as it's thick enough!  You might need a double (or triple!) layer through the wetzone if it's really thin. :)

  • I've read that cashmere will work though because it's thin, it sometimes needs an extra layer. I have a cashmere sweater I'll be making into longies, but I think I'll do a double layer around the diaper area just to be sure.
  • I made some soakers from old cashmere sweaters that worked well, but they were slightly felted and I put a double layer in the wet zone.  The original sweaters were pretty thin, though, so you can make it work.
