CAT-Scan experience?

DS's head has grow from the 25% to off the charts, they want to do a CAT-Scan to rule everything out.

Anyone been through this with their DC, can you tell me what to expect?

Re: CAT-Scan experience?

  • My son's head went from like 75% to off the charts also.  He has had several CT scans over the course of  his life and many MRIs also.  The CT scans are very fast.  I didn't see how old your DS was, but my son did them unsedated until recently.  It takes like 2 minutes and they should have instantaneous results, but you'll have to wait on the radiologist to read it, which in our experience usually takes 20-40 minutes depending on how backed up they are and depending on where you get it done!

Is your child presenting with any other symptoms neurologically or having balance problems or visual problems?  Any throwing up, irritability?  Anything like that?

  • No other symptoms at all, that is the strange thing. He is 12 months old and developmentally right on track.

The Dr. did say it is probably nothing because there areno other signs, but I am just worried.

  • Well, that's good to hear!  As long as there aren't any other signs, I'd say you're DS is probably fine.  I'm even more glad to hear that your doctor is being proactive though!

My son's head went off the charts for over 7 months before we got an MRI and by that point the damage was already done!  He was also vomiting about every two hours and his eyes bounced all over the place and one turned in.

Praying for a quick CT with fabulous results!

  • Our reason for getting one was b/c of seizures.  DS had two CT's done when he was 7 months.  Both were really quick and he was not sedated for either.  Since we were in the hospital when they were done, we got the results right away.  Wishing you lots of luck and quick results!!!
