Dh is the oldest of 6 boys, plus 2 of his brothers have other kids one has soon to be step kids plus 2 of his own so Christmas is really really expensive. Plus when they were up here 2 weeks ago they stole money off my dresser of my closed bedroom..ugh! So we decided to just do like snack baskets for both my IL's and the brothers at home and the one who is engaged with the 4 kids in total and his fiancee.
We went to the dollar store for all the stuff and spent $59.00 for 12 people's gift. lol Then to get even cheaper BIL with the 4 kids his youngest is still only 4mo old and I had gotten a "welcome to your new baby" formula thing and I put that in the basket so I didn't even pay for that....WOW we're cheap!! lol But I must say the baskets look really full and expensive. I'm Huggin and I'm proud to be cheap...lol
Re: I've gone from thrifty to just cheap!! (confession)
I say good job too! We are being cheap this year too: One of my fiance's friends is starting up photography. So we had a photo session with her a couple weekends ago, and she isn't charging us a penny. All we have to pay is for the cost of the photos to be printed - with is like $1.15 for a 5x7 and $2.20 for 8x10s!
So with frames that we are going to buy, we're looking at Christmas for my entire family at under $60.
yep my 3 youngest BIL's were over aged 16, 14, 13 and I had money on my dresser somewhat hidden and our bedroom door was closed. (the bathroom is upstairs so we had no choice but to let them upstairs) and when they left I went to go get my money for church offering and it was gone. We called FIL and they did a search of the boys and the house and found it in one of their boxing bags. He specifically asked what denominations it was in so that it would be easier to find it...and bam dead on correct!
Wow...I hope the boys got into trouble...I don't even know how I'd feel, who takes someone elses money....nothing like a bit of family drama to start off the Christmas season!
We enforced the "no one over the age of 5 other than our parents is getting a present" rule this year. It's fantastic!
That is way too many people to shop for!

OMG...I have no words....it's like one of those reality tv shows...clearly they don't respect anyone...I can't even comprehend the craziness....hugs to you for dealing with it-sounds like Tyra is needed over at their house though! or Supernanny!!!
DH and I were talking again this morning on stopping the holiday shopping madness (I tend to go overboard) - we just don't need this crapola and would rather save the money . . .way too many bills to pay!
I think that's a GREAT idea. I think you should make it a Christmas tradition. Just fill the baskets with different goodies. Like one year do something like bathroom related----like washcloths, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes and then maybe do some other theme......I think I may still this idea for my BIL & SIL next year. (DH made me take their gift back this yr bc we're hurting more financial wise and they complain non-stop about $$).
I'm with you this year! I did alot of shopping at the $ stores this year----I spent $50 on all of my family. (Not including dd, ofcourse). I just couldn't spend the extra $$$. (Oh, and not including my little brother---he's 17, so I still try to do a bigger gift for him.)
