Sleep training--what did you guys use?

We've reached the point where we HAVE to sleep train DD; we're going nuts.  We're trying to figure out which method to use.  I don't like the idea of CIO methods, but the no-cry solutions look like they take forever.  So far, we've looked into Ferber, Weissbluth, and Pantley.

Which method did you use?  Did it work?  How long did it take to work?

Please help us; we're so far beyond exhausted it's not even funny.

Re: Sleep training--what did you guys use?

  • No Cry Sleep Solution was the one we liked the best.  We haven't fully implemented it because DS has been sick/teething recently and it wasn't our main priority anymore.  You can implement NCSS a bit faster but it's not going to be an overnight solution.  Nothing is.  Not even CIO- most will attest that they've had to start over after a setback like illness or teething.  When I felt like I was losing it, I realized that DS was teething and it passed within 1-1.5 weeks. Just get started with the method you feel best meets you and baby's needs regardless of time.  Hang in there, it will get better before you know it!

  • We tried a lot of different methonds but nothing really worked but CIO. We are still working on it though. It is hard but we were exhausted too. He still ends up in our bed a lot but he was too smart for most of the methods where you go in after 5 min or 10 min. He would crank up the crying knowing we would head back in.
  • We use BabyWise, although I will say we use it more for the schedule of eat, wake, sleep vs. CIO (which I've only had to do once for a nap).  I use the clock as a reference (like, if she gets quiet or starts fussing 1-2 hrs after being awake, it's usually always means she's tired), but follow her cues and put her down for a nap or bed when she shows signs of sleepiness.  It has allowed us to know what her cries mean instead of always guessing like we were the first few weeks and catch her before she becomes overtired which makes sleep time harder.  She also sleeps with a lovey that she LOVES to hold and put up near her cheeks...more of a comfort/security that totally works for her.

All of that to say...I've found she sleeps much better at night when she naps during the day and the only way I've been able to follow through is through the BabyWise routine.
